Chapter 139 - Chapter 139: Exposing Obito’s Buried Truth

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!!"

Kakashi completely lost control, shouting as his remaining right eye glared viciously at Rokuro. The last time he had been this unhinged was the night his father—Konoha's White Fang—had taken his own life.

Rokuro faced Kakashi's outburst with a calm, unruffled expression.

"For the Sharingan to unleash its true power, both eyes must be intact. That's precisely why I previously concluded that whoever caused chaos in Kirigakure—even if it were Uchiha Madara—wouldn't pose a real threat."

"And Uchiha Obito gave his left eye to you back then. Which means that when he later faced an enemy he couldn't defeat, the first thing he would need to do was reclaim that eye—so he could confront that enemy at full strength."

"As for who that enemy was…"

Rokuro smiled faintly.

"It should have been either me, or Izumi."

He paused, then chuckled softly.

"If everything unfolded exactly as I've deduced… then your ambush on the battlefield wasn't entirely your fault. I bear part of the responsibility as well."

Kakashi continued staring at him.

"Obito died long ago. He was a hero of Konoha. He died completing a mission. There's no way he would attack Kirigakure—let alone target the Fourth Hokage and his wife. The Fourth was his teacher! Obito would never commit something as unforgivable as betraying his master and ancestors!"

Kakashi was visibly shaken.

If the death of Konoha's White Fang had plunged his life into darkness, then Obito and Rin had been the light that followed. And among them, Obito's light had shone far brighter.

After all

A woman might slow Kakashi's blade.

But Obito only ever made him faster.

Who held the greater place in his heart was obvious.

"Kakashi, calm down," Tsunade said, placing a hand on the desk.

"Let Rokuro finish."

She then turned to Rokuro.

"You wouldn't say something like this without evidence. What proof do you have?"

"No direct proof," Rokuro replied evenly.

"But there's no shortage of circumstantial evidence."

"First: only a complete pair of Sharingan can exert peak power.

Second: to this day, Obito's body has never been found."

Rokuro swept his gaze across everyone present.

"You all know this: for a dōjutsu clan like the Uchiha, a pair of awakened Sharingan is a strategic asset of the highest order."

Everyone understood immediately.

Especially Hyūga Hizashi and the others from dōjutsu clans. If a comrade died in battle, even if retrieving the body was impossible, the eyes would be removed and recovered at all costs. Later, immense manpower and resources would be spent to retrieve the remains.

"Obito's supposed place of death was not difficult to locate. He was an awakened Uchiha. There was absolutely no reason for either the village or the clan to let his body remain unclaimed."

"Yet when the news reached Konoha, the Uchiha dispatched a retrieval team—and found nothing. Not even a trace. That alone is abnormal."

"From the Warring States Era until now, the Uchiha have fought countless battles and lost countless shinobi. Yet we have always attempted to recover every fallen body. In the last twenty years, every Uchiha who died was brought home for burial—"

"Except Uchiha Obito."

Each word struck Kakashi like a hammer to the chest.

His reason told him the truth.

His heart refused to accept it.

"No… Obito would never attack the Fourth Hokage. He was kind. He would never do something like that…"

Kakashi muttered to himself, hollow-eyed.

But everyone present—including Tsunade and Jiraiya—had already reached the same conclusion.

Rokuro had no intention of stopping there.

"Kakashi, do you remember escorting Izumi and me to the Land of Lightning? We discussed Obito aboard the ship."

Kakashi looked at him, dazed.

"I remember… You said Obito had extraordinary talent—that if he survived, he'd achieve great things… Wait. Are you saying you suspected him even then?"

Rokuro smiled.

"The Uchiha produce many prodigies—but also many late bloomers. These late bloomers share common traits: intense personalities, a fierce sense of justice, and an almost foolish passion."

"Before awakening the Sharingan, such people often appear mediocre—sometimes even weaker than their peers."

"But once they suffer a powerful emotional shock, they awaken their eyes easily. And once they do—their strength skyrockets in an instant."

Rokuro looked directly at Kakashi.

"According to the records, you were the trigger for Obito's awakening. When your left eye was destroyed and your life hung by a thread, Obito awakened the Sharingan."

"And I heard that when he awakened it… he immediately reached two tomoe in both eyes. Is that correct?"

Kakashi nodded faintly.

Rokuro gestured to himself.

"My own case is well known. I awakened with double tomoe as well. Izumi did the same. That alone proves that Obito's talent was no inferior to ours."

The implication was unmistakable.

"And what happened next…" Rokuro continued quietly.

"Kakashi, you know that better than anyone."

Kakashi's face turned deathly pale.

The memory he never wanted mentioned surfaced violently.

Rokuro, ever cruel, pressed harder.

"Compared to you, Nohara Rin was Obito's one true love. According to records, she was captured by Kirigakure, forcibly sealed with the Three-Tails, and implanted with a curse seal preventing suicide."

"In the end, to protect the village, she chose to die by charging into your Chidori. Is that correct?"

Kakashi clutched his head, unable to respond.

Even Tsunade slammed the desk.

"Rokuro! Get to the point!"

Rokuro sighed.

"Fifth Hokage—don't you find this entire incident strange?"

"Strange how?"

"Sealing the Three-Tails into Rin and sending her back to Konoha as a living bomb makes no sense."

"After the fall of Uzushiogakure, Konoha became the most proficient sealing village in the shinobi world. Add the Uchiha's dōjutsu suppression, and even if Rin succeeded, the damage would've been minimal."

"And afterward, the Three-Tails would've fallen into our hands."

"A plan with such massive investment and such pitiful returns—would Kirigakure ever devise it?"

Rokuro turned to Nara Shikaku.

"Shikaku-san. Would you?"

Shikaku shook his head.

"To maximize effectiveness, a large Kirigakure force would've needed to follow Rin—coordinating an inside-outside assault."

"But a force that large would never evade detection. The plan was unworkable from the start."

"And in reality, Kirigakure sent only a small unit. A small unit plus the Three-Tails could never threaten Konoha."

Realization dawned across the room.

Kakashi looked up.

"Then… this plan wasn't meant to destroy Konoha?"

Rokuro's voice turned icy.

"It was meant to destroy one person."

"To force him to witness Rin's death—preferably by his best friend's hand."

"The emotional impact of your closest friend killing the woman you love… How many people here could survive that?"

"And Obito," Rokuro said softly,

"had almost no emotional control."

Kakashi shot to his feet.

"Who?! Who devised something this vile?!"

No answer was needed.

"Uchiha Madara," Kakashi whispered.

"It could only be him."

Tsunade exhaled heavily.

"Even without absolute proof, this is more than enough."

"It appears Madara orchestrated everything to awaken Obito's Mangekyō. After Rin's death, Obito completely fell into darkness—leading to the Nine-Tails Incident, and later the Three-Tails Incident."

Rokuro spoke firmly.

"I recommend we make this public and officially list Uchiha Obito as a missing-nin. It will also serve as an explanation to Kirigakure."

Kakashi broke again.

"This is all conjecture! And everything Obito did… was understandable!"

"Understandable?" Rokuro snapped.

"Even if Madara manipulated him, that does not excuse the Nine-Tails Incident!"

"Look around you. How many people here lost family or friends that night? Do you think they would forgive Obito?"

Kakashi looked around.

Cold faces everywhere.

Especially Jiraiya.

Minato and Kushina—Obito's teacher and his wife—were dead by Obito's hand.

Only a saint—or an idiot—could forgive that.

Tsunade spoke decisively.

"Kakashi. Obito crossed our bottom line. And Kirigakure is involved. We have no choice."

Kakashi fell silent.

If it was truly Obito… then he was Konoha's enemy.

Naruto had suffered hatred merely for being a Jinchūriki—a victim and a hero.

Obito was the culprit.

There could be no forgiveness.

The room fell silent until Rokuro spoke again.

"There is one piece of good news."

"The real Uchiha Madara is likely already dead. If he were alive, he wouldn't have gone through all this trouble grooming a successor."

"And Obito, even with Mangekyō, risked exposure just to steal his eye back from Kakashi."

"That tells me one thing."

"In his one-eyed state, he knows he isn't my or Izumi's match."

Everyone nodded.

With Kirigakure exposed, Obito could no longer manipulate a Kage or wage proxy wars.

And in the end

Conspiracies fear exposure.

Only open schemes are truly terrifying.

Tsunade issued the order personally.

Uchiha Obito was officially declared a missing-ninja

The truth was made public.

His mask was ripped away entirely.

Soon after, the Land of Water responded—claiming they had no knowledge of Rin's sealing. It had been the Mizukage's unilateral decision.

Which only confirmed one thing:

More than one Mizukage had likely been controlled.

After leaving the Hokage's office, Rokuro returned home to visit his mother, Uchiha Ashikaga.

Later, while training in the Forest of Death, he unexpectedly spotted young Naruto, fishing alone by the river.

"…This kid's living conditions still look awful."

Rokuro narrowed his eyes.

"Tsunade didn't improve his treatment? Or did she forget? Or is she pulling a Hiruzen and continuing the PUA relay?"

After a moment of thought

Rokuro grinned wickedly and walked over.
