Chapter 116: Special Weapon
McGonagall, who saw that both Harry and Dudley were safe, finally let out a long sigh of relief.
She stepped forward and immediately began to scold the two boys, her voice trembling slightly with the aftershock of fear.
Dudley could only scratch his head. He knew McGonagall personality well even in the original timeline, she had cried when Voldemort announced Harry Potter is death, her grief spilling over as she saw Hagrid carrying Harry body.
For a brief moment, Dudley felt oddly touched by that memory.
"We are sorry, Professor McGonagall," said Dudley quietly.
"Yeah," added Harry, still lying on the floor, his voice weak but sincere.
"Don't you ever do something this reckless again..... " McGonagall began, but Dumbledore gently interrupted her.
"Minerva, I think we should give them some space," said Dumbledore calmly. "Let's hear what truly happened here before passing judgment."
McGonagall glanced around and noticed that more and more Aurors were arriving at the scene. She exhaled slowly, then nodded in agreement.
"Thank you, Dudley, for helping me," said Amelia Bones suddenly. Her tone carried genuine gratitude, though her mind was still reeling. Only minutes ago, she had witnessed the impossible feat that Dudley had done. He was standing alone against dozens of Death Eaters, even holding his ground against the Dark Lord himself. It had taken all of McGonagall sharp voice to pull her back to reality.
"You're welcome," replied Dudley modestly.
"By the way," Amelia continued, her eyes narrowing slightly, "how did you know he would appear at my manor?"
Dudley gaze flicked to the surrounding Aurors and the gathering crowd. "I don't think this is the right place to discuss that," he said quietly.
Realizing the same, Amelia gave a curt nod. "Come to my office. We'll talk there." She turned to address the Aurors who had gathered around the battlefield. "Identify the bodies on the ground. They're the ones who attacked me and tried to destroy my home."
The Aurors quickly dispersed to carry out her orders, their faces pale with shock. Some knelt beside the corpses of known Death Eaters, escaped prisoners of azkaban, pure-blood wizards, their bodies charred, twisted, and scarred beyond recognition. The stench of burnt magic hung thick in the air.
Whispers spread among the younger Aurors, eyes darting toward Amelia Bones with newfound respect. To them, it seemed she had fought valiantly and nearly triumphed before the Death Eaters fled. They didn't yet understand that the real storm had been the boy standing quietly beside her.
Dumbledore stepped forward, intending to escort Harry and Dudley back to his office. But Amelia blocked his path, her expression firm.
"Headmaster, I'll need to question them first," she said. "They were directly involved in this attack. We need to know exactly what happened tonight."
Amelia had seen Harry Potter manage to stay alive, after being casted by a killing curse. She need to know why he had survived.
Understanding her position, Dumbledore inclined his head. "Very well, Madam Bones. I'll accompany you. I, too, wish to hear their account."
And so they made their way to the DMLE headquarters, Dumbledore, Mad-Eye Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and Amelia Bones all ready to listen as Dudley began to recount the battle that had shaken the night.
---Amelia Office---
Before they arrived at the office, Dudley whispered to Amelia while they are walking towards her office to keep it a secret that Harry had been hit by the Killing Curse.
"Why?" asked Amelia.
"I'll tell you later, but for now it's best that this secret stays between us. Trust me," replied Dudley.
Amelia sighed and finally nodded.
They reached Amelia office ten minutes later. Other than Professor Dumbledore, the professors from Hogwarts who had helped earlier were also there, including Mad-Eye Moody and Kingsley Shacklebolt.
More people wanted to come in to listen, but Amelia ordered her Aurors to block them all.
Dudley sat down on the sofa with Harry, who had finally regained his strength. The house-elf had already been sent back to the secret base.
"Now tell us, how did you know they were going to attack me?" asked Amelia.
"After reading the news that Moldyshort attacked the Minister," began Dudley, but his sentence was interrupted when Mad-Eye Moody accidentally spilled his drink.
It happened because he took a sip from his bottle just as Dudley began speaking. The name "Moldyshort" made several of them twitch, trying not to laugh. Even Dumbledore's eyes twinkled slightly and of course, the worst off was Moody, who had been drinking at the time.
"I'm sorry about that," said Mad-Eye Moody as he pulled out his wand and cast Scourgify to clean up the mess. Then he looked at Dudley. "Moldyshorts? Such a fine name."
"Yeah, that's the first time I've heard someone called him Moldyshorts instead of You-Know-Who," added Kingsley Shacklebolt.
The other professors looked as if they wanted to say something but kept quiet.
"I found that when people call him You-Know-Who, fear spreads in their hearts. I know about the taboo on his name from the last war, so I gave him the nickname Moldyshorts," explained Dudley.
Several of them almost laughed but managed to hold it in.
"So, I believe he will resume his crimes, and the first person he would attack upon returning is Madam Amelia Bones because she's a candidate for the next Minister for Magic," said Dudley.
"Then your idea was to break into my house instead of telling the professors about your suspicion?" questioned Amelia.
"Yes," replied Dudley.
"That was dangerous," said Professor McGonagall. "You shouldn't have done that. You were lucky to survive."
"Professor, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but I believe I can defeat them," Dudley said firmly.
Dumbledore, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke. "My boy, why are you so confident?"
Dudley decided to show them his weapon. He reached into his robe and took out two potions from his inventory, the Edurus Potion and the Thunderbrew Potion, placing them carefully on the table.
The others examined the potions with curiosity. Judging from their color, none of them could tell what the brews were for.
"These are the Thunderbrew Potion and the Edurus Potion. The reason I was confident is because of these," said Dudley.
"What? Weren't you asking me because Voldemort couldn't hurt me with my wand?" asked Harry in shock.
