Yu Xi gasped, his own shock palpable. His hands, which had been braced to fight, hovered uncertainly. "Jian Ci?" he whispered, voice ragged.

In the memory, Jian Ci lifted his head. His eyes were glassy, unfocused, but the violent haze was gone, replaced by a deep, aching need. He didn't speak.
