Chapter 382 - Chapter 383: Robot Who Won’t Die!

The invisible force carried the little girl swiftly backward, pulling her away from the fatal strike.

"W-what…?"

The girl froze in shock.

She didn't remember ever having this kind of ability. Soon, though, she realized—someone powerful must have intervened. A mutant.

Her wide eyes darted around, searching for her savior.

But the sentry robot wasn't about to give up its prey.

Expressionless, it adjusted immediately and resumed its relentless pursuit. Its gaze was colder than that of the T-1000, its scarlet sensors devoid of even the faintest trace of emotion.

At last, it caught up to the child again. The mechanical giant raised its blade-like arm, driving it mercilessly toward her heart.

The girl went pale with terror.

Boom—!

A sharp sound rang out—not the sound of flesh being pierced.

The girl squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for agony that never came. When the pain didn't arrive, she cracked her eyes open.

The razor-sharp point of the sentry's blade hovered just before her nose, trembling, unable to advance an inch further.

A powerful hand gripped the deadly edge in place, stopping it cold.

Following the line of that hand, the girl saw a tall man standing protectively in front of her.

Compared to the three-meter-tall sentinel robot, his figure seemed small. But in that moment, he radiated a power that dwarfed the machine itself.

Even the girl's childish mind understood—this man was no ordinary mutant. He was something terrifyingly strong.

"Kid," Fenric said lightly, his eyes never leaving the robot, "get back and wait for me. And don't run around."

The girl scrambled away on hands and knees, hiding behind the ruins.

Meanwhile, Fenric studied the sentry robot with calm, almost eager interest. According to the films, these things could simulate countless mutant abilities—fire, ice, and more.

Let's see what you can do…

This was more than curiosity. Testing the sentinel's full combat potential was crucial to his next plan.

The robot, however, didn't care about plans or curiosity. Its glowing red optics locked onto Fenric. In its system, he, too, registered as a target.

Its face split open, revealing a hidden weapon. A beam of searing light shot forth like lightning, straight at Fenric.

Fenric raised his arm, coating it in Armament Haki. His flame powers already granted him high resistance to heat, and combined with full-level Armament, normal temperatures couldn't harm him at all.

But this wasn't normal heat.

The laser struck his arm.

Fenric's expression tightened. Hot… too hot.

The temperature was easily above two thousand degrees—enough to melt steel, just as in the original plot.

Zzzzt!

His skin hissed where the beam seared it.

Fenric didn't hesitate. He lunged forward, his fist smashing into the robot's head.

Crack!

The entire face of the sentinel shattered under the blow, the laser cutting off instantly. The massive body toppled backward like a felled tree.

Fenric lowered his smoking fist, glancing at the burn on his arm with a frown.

The injury was minor for him, but one thing was clear—if hundreds, or thousands, of these machines attacked with such beams, even he could be overwhelmed.

These lasers were a real threat. Something to be cautious about.

He decided not to finish it off just yet. Instead, he stood still, watching the wreckage.

The girl, crouched nearby, cried out, "Sir, let's run! It's not dead—it'll kill us!"

Though she had seen Fenric's strength, she knew firsthand the terror of the sentry robots. In her eyes, fleeing was the only smart option.

But Fenric ignored her plea, waiting calmly.

Sure enough, the robot's shattered face began to knit itself back together.

The material of its body wasn't ordinary metal—that would have left it vulnerable to Magneto. Instead, it was crafted from a special substance derived from Mystique's shapeshifting cells. That design allowed it to simulate mutant abilities—even Wolverine's healing.

Fenric narrowed his eyes as the sentinel's reconstruction finished.

"As expected of a machine built to slaughter mutants," he murmured. "Impressive… So, destroying the core is the only way to finish you?"

The robot rose again, scarlet optics fixed on him, colder than ever.

The girl shrank back further, trembling, but stayed put. For all her fear, she didn't abandon Fenric to his fate.

Fenric's lips curved slightly.

"Come on then," he said softly, beckoning with one hand. "Show me what else you've got."
