Thirteen Years Ago
Returning home for school holidays were the days fifteen-year-old Rihan dreaded more than anything.
The house was silent. His siblings were out at a birthday party, while he was alone in his room, pulling out his trophies and medals from the science competitions he'd won and placing them neatly on the shelf before continuing to unpack.
He frowned as he kept pushing his glasses up his nose. They wouldn't stay in place.
With a frustrated grunt, he yanked them off his face and threw them against the wall, watching as they fell to the floor, the lenses completely shattered.
He groaned and squatted down, digging his fingers into his ruffled, shoulder-length hair.
"They went to a birthday party," he scoffed under his breath. "Bullshit."
His stomach rumbled loudly. He sighed, stood up, and finished arranging his clothes and shoes in the closet before showering. After changing into clean clothes, he left his room and walked to the kitchen.
