Patricia shifted faintly, her fingers twitching against the sheets.
"Evelyn?" she murmured, voice thin and barely there.
Evelyn was on her feet before the name fully left Patricia's lips. She crossed the room in two quick steps, gripping Patricia's hand with both of hers like it was an anchor.
"I am here," she said, her voice breaking despite her effort to steady it. "I am right here."
Patricia's eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first. She blinked slowly, as if the room refused to settle in place.
Evelyn's face crumpled. "I am so sorry," she whispered, guilt pouring out before she could stop it. "I should have paid attention. I should have—"
"Evelyn," Patricia interrupted weakly. "Stop."
Evelyn froze.
Patricia swallowed, throat working. "You didn't do anything."
Her gaze lingered on Evelyn's face, studying her like she needed to make sure she was really there. Then her brows knit together, confusion giving way to something heavier.
"Oh," she breathed. "Your wedding—"
