Arden needed Liu Mingyue to cooperate in the arrest by feeding Brother Kun false intelligence to mislead him, then later serve as a cooperating witness to send Brother Kun to prison—preferably forever.
As compensation, they would do everything legally possible to reduce Liu Mingyue's sentence.
After serving her time, Yunkui Summit would accept Liu Mingyue as a disciple, giving her a chance to start over and become a good person.
"You've heard of Yunkui Summit, right? That's a renowned righteous sect—I'm a disciple of Yunkui Summit."
Arden put on a very proud expression, looking as though not joining Yunkui Summit would be a loss of several hundred million Dennies. "As for wanting to be a good person, don't worry—even if you're not one, my master and I will teach you how to be one!"
Villains could not survive at Yunkui Summit—either they were reformed into good people, or, like Yi Jing, expelled from the mountain.
In the end, Liu Mingyue agreed to Arden's conditions and was willing to cooperate with the task force to arrest Brother Kun.
After that, Liu Mingyue returned to the task force as if nothing had happened and continued working as an inspector.
That day, Jane Doe sent back information that Brother Kun was heading to a secret warehouse located inside a Hollow.
"Surveillance team, suspend all operations."
Inspector Huang acted decisively, pulling back the tailing personnel and letting Brother Kun boldly proceed to the secret warehouse.
The mole and the undercover agent worked in close coordination—one relayed Brother Kun's movements back to the task force, while the other fed Brother Kun false information to reassure him that the task force posed no threat.
With pressure from both outside and inside, Brother Kun and his subordinates were trapped inside the secret warehouse.
With no way out, Brother Kun picked up his phone and dialed the mole's number—his final hope of escape.
Ding-ling-ling~ ding-ling-ling~!
The ringtone echoed through the warehouse.
Clearly, contrary to his expectations, the mole Inspector Liu was nearby.
How could she be here!?
Suppressing his doubts, Brother Kun scanned his surroundings, searching for the source of the ringing.
"Stop looking. It's right here."
Along with a smug voice, Arden stepped out from behind a pillar.
Ding-ling-ling~
The ringing was coming from the phone in his hand.
"Why is the phone with you—"
Before Brother Kun could finish, three more figures appeared behind Arden.
Zhu Yuan, Qingyi… and Inspector Liu—the last hope of Brother Kun's escape.
"!!"
Brother Kun's eyes widened in disbelief as he pointed at Inspector Liu. "You… you actually betrayed me."
"Sorry. I want to be a good person."
There was not the slightest trace of guilt in Liu Mingyue's voice. Between loyalty and justice, she chose to become a disciple of Yunkui Summit.
"Bastard!"
Knowing things had gone terribly wrong, Brother Kun turned and ran, trying to struggle one last time—but Arden gave him no chance.
"Celestial Talisman Arts: Bind!"
Arden threw out a talisman.
The talisman transformed into golden light, which then manifested into a binding rope that shot forward, caught up to Brother Kun, and tied him up tightly.
Afterward, Zhu Yuan and Qingyi stepped forward—one restraining Brother Kun, the other snapping handcuffs onto him.
Inspector Huang had already led his team to seal off the warehouse and secure the contraband drugs inside.
The arrest was a complete success, with both suspect and evidence captured.
Judging by the quantity of contraband drugs in the warehouse, Brother Kun would never see the outside of a prison for the rest of his life.
At Throne Quarter Public Security Precinct.
Clap clap clap~!
Warm applause erupted for the task force returning victorious.
Inspector Liu was among them. The corners of her mouth lifted unconsciously, her face filled with a genuine, heartfelt smile.
Being a good person… feels really good.
At the same time, Jane Doe stayed in a corner of the interrogation room, silently watching everything through the gap in the blinds.
For a brief moment, she felt a twinge of envy toward Liu Mingyue—though facing punishment, she could finally live openly in the light.
Knock—! When will I be able to walk under the sunlight too?
Jane Doe sighed inwardly. For a professional undercover agent, walking in the sunlight was nothing more than a luxury.
One mission ended, and the next would soon be waiting for her.
"Jane, you did great. You've worked hard."
Inspector Huang entered the interrogation room, went through a perfunctory round of questioning, then turned off the recording and praised her.
"It's nothing. It's what I should do."
Jane Doe displayed the attitude expected of a Public Security officer—no matter how hard or exhausting, she would continue serving the people.
"The higher-ups will arrange your parole, and then a new undercover assignment—"
Halfway through, Inspector Huang suddenly changed his tone. "Jane, do you need a vacation?"
The concern in his voice reflected both a superior's care for a subordinate and a friend's concern.
Jane was a little moved, but in the end, she shook her head. "No. The citizens of New Eridu are still waiting for me to save them."
Contraband drugs, Hollow corrosion, and all that.
"Alright. The official arrangements aren't finalized yet—take a few days to rest."
Inspector Huang didn't interfere with Jane Doe's decision. They were all adults.
"If you're feeling unwell anywhere, you can go see Consultant Arden. His skills are very good."
Most members of the task force had been working overtime for a long time and were in poor physical condition. As a qualified disciple of Yunkui Summit, Arden certainly wouldn't miss a chance to boost business for local clinics and massage parlors.
"Mm… I'll think about it."
For some reason, when Inspector Huang mentioned Arden, the usually bold and composed Jane Doe's expression subtly shifted.
"Take care."
Inspector Huang patted Jane Doe on the shoulder and left.
One day later.
Jane Doe was released on bail. Her undercover identity was not made public, and before her next mission, she had a few days of rest.
"Mm…"
Stepping out of the Throne Quarter Police Precinct building, the bright sunlight outside made her squint.
Jane Doe narrowed her eyes, raising a hand to shield them, gradually adjusting to the brightness after spending a whole day in the interrogation room.
"That's…"
Then she saw a familiar figure.
Arden was standing by the edge of the steps, talking on the phone.
"Got it. Don't worry about me—everything went smoothly… the mission's finished. I'll be heading back to Yunkui Summit right away."
There were still some loose ends to this operation—such as sorting through the materials seized from Brother Kun to expose more hidden moles within New Eridu Public Security—but those matters had nothing to do with Arden anymore.
His role as a consultant had ended, and he was preparing to return to Yunkui Summit.
He'd been away from the mountain for some time now. Ju Fufu, Yixuan Shifu, Yiji, Sweety… they were probably all missing him.
As an aside, Inspector Huang had hoped Arden would stay at the Public Security Bureau and become a full-fledged officer, but Arden had politely declined.
Being a Public Security officer wasn't to Arden's taste—though making an occasional guest appearance as a consultant was something he'd happily do.
