The gunshot rang out again, sharp and deafening, followed by several bullets tearing through the air toward Evangeline's sides. She didn't register what exactly had been fired at her, her mind was far too stunned for that, but she heard it. The vicious swooping sound sliced past her ears, close enough to make her skin crawl as instinct screamed at her to move.
Before any more bullets could reach her, Hades reacted.
His black wing spread wide in an instant, engulfing Evangeline completely as he pulled her into his body and rushed her toward the carriage. The force of his movement was abrupt, sweeping the snow near him off the ground as though it had rained snow. The quick moves startled the humans away from them, but for Evangeline who saw the wings spreading before her eyes was momentarily stunned by its beauty. The beauty that would rather take every shot meant for her than risk letting a single one slip past.
