Chapter 307 - Chapter 307: Crit After Crit—That’s the Confidence Farfetch’d Gives Me

"Gaa-gaa!"

Farfetch'd let out a shrill cry of fighting spirit. Its sharp beak locked onto Primeape's back—and then it thrust forward like a spear!

Because Primeape was still maintaining its charging momentum, even when it sensed the danger coming from behind, it couldn't react in time.

It could only stomp hard to steady itself, then whip around, trying to use Cross Chop to meet Farfetch'd's Peck head-on.

But Primeape's plan fell apart.

Farfetch'd was faster. Before Primeape could fully turn, Farfetch'd's energy-sharpened beak had already stabbed in—slamming heavily into its back!

Luckily, it didn't hit a vital spot.

Primeape figured it could still take one more. No big deal.

"Primeape!" (We're both Fighting-types—if you've got the guts, fight me face-to-face!)

Primeape pointed and raged at Farfetch'd. The other guy clearly had a weapon, yet it was still pulling this sneaky, in-and-out nonsense.

Where was your pride as a Fighting-type Pokémon?

Fight like that and you'll get kicked out of the Fighting-type registry!

"Gaa-gaa." (Who told you Fighting-types have to fight head-on?)

Farfetch'd sighed faintly.

During the time it had spent with Grey, Farfetch'd had learned one important truth:

If you can't win, then dodge.

Against a muscle-brained Pokémon like Primeape, it knew it couldn't match it blow for blow.

At the very least, it would need to evolve first.

And as for "Fighting-type pride"?

Who gave you the right to define Fighting-types as "must fight face-to-face"?

Even the big-shot Breloom messes around with Spore—so that "equation" obviously doesn't hold.

Whether or not it convinced Primeape was unknown, but Farfetch'd definitely convinced itself.

"Primeape!" (You little—!)

Primeape was furious. If it had the Anger Point Ability, that last hit alone would've sent its momentum through the roof.

"Primeape, don't let Farfetch'd get in your head," Ash called out.

Ash didn't know what Farfetch'd had said, but if it could make Primeape this angry, it was obviously messing with it.

"Primeape!"

Primeape stomped forward with heavy steps, swinging its brown fists through the air several times. Ripples burst through the atmosphere as if it were venting pure rage.

"Pokémon like Primeape aren't famous just for raw power," Grey reminded. "Ash, in future battles, remember to think about what makes monkey Pokémon different."

Then he barked, "Farfetch'd, show some backbone—don't let Primeape look down on us. Use Focus Energy!"

"Gaa-gaa!"

Farfetch'd took a deep breath. A burst of golden light flared from its core, making its eyes look almost "blessed"—bright and razor-sharp.

Primeape's movements became unbelievably clear in its vision. It even had the eerie feeling that it could predict what Primeape would do next.

"Primeape, charge in—use Brick Break!" Ash shouted.

Ash's tactics were straightforward and aggressive.

With Ash's command, Primeape shot forward like an arrow. Its palm snapped open, and a surge of Fighting energy erupted from it.

The distance wasn't bad, but Primeape still needed a bit of time to close the gap.

Farfetch'd, meanwhile, stared with absolute focus at the onrushing Primeape. Facing that kind of reckless, head-down brawling, it curled its beak in disdain.

"Gaa-gaa!"

Gripping its leek, Farfetch'd instantly mapped out several ways to respond.

Primeape was still too green.

The same thought surfaced in Grey's mind. While both sides were still at a safe distance, he swung his arm decisively:

"Leaf Blade!"

Whoosh!

A vivid green radiance exploded from the leek in Farfetch'd's hands. The messy mass of leek leaves was instantly wrapped in Grass energy—then extended and refined into a three-meter-long energy blade. In Farfetch'd's hands, it whirled with fierce, howling force.

Primeape's brows twitched. Its knees bent sharply, and then it launched itself upward like a spring!

In the blink of an eye, Primeape's raised arm also aimed straight down at Farfetch'd's head—then chopped down hard!

At the same moment, Farfetch'd swung its leek upward to meet the incoming Brick Break!

Clang!

Two forces crashed together, and energy ripples exploded through the air!

"Primeape!"

Primeape tried to pour in more power—only to realize the Fighting energy in its Brick Break was unraveling and dispersing, strand by strand!

Farfetch'd on the ground wasn't unscathed. The spot beneath its feet cracked into a web of fractures from the shock, and its webbed feet sank slightly into the broken surface.

But its swinging motion never stalled. If anything, it looked completely at ease as it handled Primeape's attack.

A crushing domination!

Total domination!

Primeape's move looked intimidating, but against Farfetch'd in a Focus Energy state, it was full of openings.

That last Leaf Blade had struck the weak point in Primeape's Brick Break, which was why the energy dispersed the way it did.

Now Primeape was blasted back several meters. It had to carve two deep trenches with its feet before it barely managed to stop.

"Primeape…"

Primeape shook its dizzy head. Its fur bristled upright with rage.

Those ever-angry eyes locked onto Farfetch'd, and with each heavy breath, it spat out scalding white mist.

A brutal opponent. Even after it went all-out with Brick Break, it still got crushed—redirected like it weighed nothing, the kind of "soft force beating hard force" that shattered its attack outright.

So… its own skill just wasn't there yet.

Primeape had to admit it—Farfetch'd was the real deal.

At least that Leaf Blade had still carried serious power even after breaking through Brick Break.

"So strong…" Ash wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead.

The pressure Grey's Farfetch'd was putting on him was overwhelming.

His strength had improved to this extent—so why did battling Grey still feel so suffocating?

Was this… the power of an Elite Four–level Trainer?

"Farfetch'd—use Leaf Blade again!" Grey pressed the advantage.

Primeape's stamina wasn't great, and its level wasn't high either.

After taking two critical-hit finishers to vital spots, it was already flirting with danger.

If the next Leaf Blade landed cleanly, even if it didn't go down instantly, it would be hanging by a thread.

"Gaa."

Farfetch'd rumbled low. It gripped the leek horizontally with both hands. Emerald light surged through the stalk, tempering the entire leek into a dazzling three-meter-long blade of radiance!

Seeing that, Ash roared, "Primeape, don't lose to it—use Rage Fist!"

"Primeape!"

Primeape smashed its fists together, and a deep, shadowy glow burst out from within.

It punched into the air—and two massive ghostly fist afterimages came screaming forward!

After being hit hard twice in a row, the power of this Rage Fist had climbed to 150.

For Primeape, throwing out a Rage Fist at that power was basically its limit.

But for Farfetch'd—after seeing Annihilape's Rage Fist—Ash's Primeape was, frankly…

Not enough.
