The next day was the official day of the hearing. Originally, Vivian and Mrs. York planned to go to the court with Mr. York to observe, but Mr. York insisted they stay back and only took Ethan Hayes with him.
After they left, Mrs. York turned to Vivian, looking confused, and said, "Vivian, do you feel like you're suddenly out of favor?"
"What do you mean??"
Vivian couldn't help but twitch her mouth at her mom's words, not quite understanding what she meant at first.
"What I mean is, recently, your dad seems to be spending a lot of time with Ethan," Mrs. York carefully considered her words, then sulkily said to Vivian, "Every morning, those two guys go jogging together, then come back for breakfast. After breakfast, they sit in the study, holding books on law, studying the case your dad is working on. I get it, Ethan wants to study law in the future, so it's fine for him. But your dad doesn't know anything about it and insists on joining in."
