I was in the garden with Raizel, discussing which sections needed preparing for winter planting, when Camilla came running across the lawn with a letter in her hand.
"It's from Cassius!" she called out, waving the envelope.
Raizel and I exchanged glances. We'd been getting letters from my brother regularly since he'd left for Sailcrest months ago, dozens of them by now, each one carefully written to let us know he was managing well in his new life.
Cassius's letters had been growing progressively more conflicted over the weeks though, at first, they'd been almost aggressively cheerful, talking about his new life and his freedom.
But lately, there was something missing between the lines.
"What does this one say?" I asked as she reached us, slightly breathless.
