Silas arrived just as the sun was beginning to set, the sky painted in shades of orange and pink that made the harbor waters look like liquid gold.
"Ready for the festival?" he asked when I opened the door, and his smile was warm enough to make something flutter in my chest.
"Yes," I confirmed, stepping out and locking the shop behind me.
We started down the street toward the harbor where the festival was being held. Already I could hear music drifting on the evening breeze, laughter too, and the general noise of a crowd enjoying themselves.
"Fair warning," Silas said as we walked, "I'm probably going to embarrass myself trying to get you to try the honey candy."
"Honey candy?"
"Yeah, I know, it's technically for children, but I swear it's the best thing at these festivals. Old Maren makes it, her family's been doing it for generations, and I've been eating it since I was five and I still don't know the complete ingredients used in making it."
