Chapter 68 - "Luffy's First Defeat"

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The highlight reel froze.

The image on the screen was brutal—Crocodile's golden hook pierced straight through Straw Hat Luffy's body. Blood everywhere.

That sudden, fatal strike left every world watching completely stunned.

"Relax, relax! Come on, the Straw Hat kid's the main hero this time—there's no way he dies that easily!"—Demon Slayer World

"How... how could this happen? Luffy… did Luffy really die?"Tanjiro's voice trembled in disbelief.

"Didn't he say he was gonna be King of the Pirates? Their adventure's just getting started! Get up, Straw Hat!"Inosuke shouted, voice raw with emotion.

"With a hole like that through his body, and buried in sand? Nobody could survive that…"Zenitsu sobbed, wiping away his tears over and over.

"No… maybe it's too soon to say for sure," said Kagaya Ubuyashiki suddenly.

"Master?""Did you think of something?""Is there still a chance?"

The Hashira, who trusted him deeply, all turned toward him with hopeful eyes.

"It's just a feeling," Kagaya murmured. "But their journey's far from over."

Fairy Tail Guild — Earthland

"Stand up!""Come on, Luffy!""Don't you dare die here!""You promised to knock that croc bastard into next week!"

Natsu, Gray, and the rest shouted at the top of their lungs.

Ling Cage World

"Waaah... Luffy really died?" little Xia Dou cried, sniffling.

"Die? Way too early to say that," Bai Yue Kui said, raising an eyebrow.

One Person's World

"Heh, what's going on today? The short-lived one, Ace, survives, and the long-lived one, Luffy, dies? Did fate just switch their scripts?"Daoist Wang rubbed his chin suspiciously.

Every fortune-teller across the multiverse looked utterly baffled—then, after recalculating, they all relaxed.

"No way Luffy's gone for good! Heroes always make a comeback!"

From Gintama's Gintoki to Himouto! Umaru-chan's Umaru, everyone shouted in faith.

The sad BGM swelled.

The screen shifted—Luffy's crew was riding a giant moving crab.

Zoro, the three-sword pirate hunter, was using a camel for weight training.Usopp was bragging to Chopper about his "heroic deeds."Chopper, bless his innocent heart, believed every word.

It was lighthearted and funny… yet no one across the worlds could smile.

"Seriously? Their captain's dead, and they're just goofing around like that?"In the Naruto world, Hidan shrugged.

"Not their fault," Kakuzu scoffed. "They don't know he's dead yet. Probably still hoping for his return."

"They're not carefree," Gojo Satoru commented. "They're just venting their stress the only way they know how."

In the Dragon Raja world, watching the cheerful Straw Hat crew, Yuan Zhisheng couldn't help but think of his own team's reckless antics."They're unbelievable... Watching them makes me feel like maybe, just maybe, Luffy's still alive."

In the A Certain Magical Index world, Misaka Mikoto felt that same spark of hope.Meliodas from Seven Deadly Sins grinned. "Heh, sometimes when someone disappears, that's actually good news. If you can't confirm death, there's still hope!"

The scene continued.

The Straw Hats rode the crab through the Sandora River, where they encountered a man-eating catfish—only to have it beaten into submission by Luffy's "disciple," Kung-Fu Dugong.

Soon, Carue and the Super Spot-Billed Duck Squadron arrived, reuniting with the crew and guiding them toward the capital with the help of Alabasta's animal army.

Vivi and the Straw Hats made it to the royal city before the rebel army. The crew split up—riding their ducks to draw out Baroque Works' elite agents.

The diversion worked perfectly.

Vivi stood alone on the path the rebel army would take.

The ground trembled.

Two million soldiers on the move—like thunder across the desert.

Vivi didn't flinch. She was ready to face them alone.

"She can do it!""She's childhood friends with the rebel leader, Koza!""They might ignore anyone else—but they'll listen to Vivi!""If she can just talk to him, she can stop the war!"

That's what everyone thought.

Then—chaos.

Before Vivi could even reach Koza, an explosion rocked the battlefield.

A "stray shot" from the royal army filled the air with smoke, blinding both sides.

The peace talks never even began.

Koza couldn't hear her voice.

And the war began anyway.

"Damn it! Who fired that shot?!""They almost stopped the war—almost!""Just one more step and it could've ended peacefully!""Damn it all! What about Princess Vivi? Is she okay?!""She didn't get trampled, did she?!"

Across the worlds, people were panicking.

"That wasn't an accident," Tsunade murmured. "That was Crocodile's doing."

Reborn from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! narrowed his eyes."The soldier who fired had a Baroque Works tattoo. Crocodile planted a mole inside the royal army."

"Flawless," Genos growled from One Punch Man. "That monster planned every move."

"Impressive," muttered Light Yagami, writing "Crocodile" in his Death Note. But—nothing happened.

Ryuk chuckled, biting into his apple."I told you—doesn't work on people from other worlds."

Aizen smiled faintly. "A near-perfect plan… but revealing yourself too early is always a mistake."

"Schemes like that are for the weak," Frieza sneered. "True power doesn't need tricks."

In Dressrosa, Diamante nodded. "The croc's got brains, I'll give him that."

Doflamingo laughed his eerie laugh. "Fufufufu! But what's the point of a perfect plan? In the end, that idiot still lost—to Straw Hat! What a disgrace to the Seven Warlords. I'd never lose to a rookie like that."

Still, many held onto hope.

"Maybe he's still alive... He's rubber, right? Being stabbed doesn't mean he's dead!"

And indeed—Luffy wasn't gone yet.

Even with a hole in his chest, he reached out, clutching Crocodile's wet wrist with a trembling hand.

Crocodile yanked him off and tossed him into a pit of quicksand.

Watching Luffy sink, Crocodile smirked.

"Thinking of others—that kind of sentimentality will destroy this country. You're the same, Straw Hat. If you gave up those pointless feelings, maybe you'd live longer… But it doesn't matter. You'll be free of it soon. Goodbye."

He turned and left.

Luffy, wounded and half-buried, disappeared beneath the sands.

Silence.

Every world watching fell quiet.

A mortal wound, swallowed by sand, no allies in sight—everyone assumed the same thing.

Luffy was dead.

And then the outcry came.

"What the hell—what a gut punch!" "I let my guard down! I thought this was gonna be a fun, lighthearted episode!" "I can't believe they'd pull this—heroes don't get a break, huh?" "Even the idiots get stabbed? Where's the justice in that?!" "'Fools have luck,' they said—guess not!" "He gave us so much joy, and this is how he goes?!" "If the captain's dead, how does the story even continue?" "I bet the rest of the crew dies avenging him, one by one…"

Tears filled the eyes of countless viewers across worlds.

Except, of course, in One Piece's own world.

"Luffy... the captain… he's dead?""Just like that?"

Ordinary citizens murmured, heartbroken.

"No way! The Alabasta incident report already said—" "Smoker defeated Crocodile, yeah—but Straw Hat didn't die!" "Right! His bounty went up to 100 million after that!" "Wait, if Smoker got the credit, why did Luffy's bounty increase?"

That question hung in the air.

New World – Red-Haired Pirates

"Boss! Bad news—Luffy's gonna die!"Fatty Lucky Roo shouted.

"Calm down," Beckman sighed. "He's alive and well right now."

"Yeah, if he died here, there'd be no Enies Lobby arc later," Yasopp added.

"Ahahaha! Don't worry. Heroes don't go down that easily," Shanks laughed.

Alabasta Kingdom

"Luffy... he fought for me... and died?"Vivi's voice cracked as tears streamed down her face. She had never known—until now, through the light screen—what really happened that day.

"It's okay, Lady Vivi," Pell said softly. "Mr. Luffy won't die that easily."

Vivi nodded faintly, her heart stirring with something new.Something beyond friendship—something she couldn't quite name. Was this… love?

Impel Down – Level Six, Eternal Hell

"Whuhaha! Nicely done, Crocodile!" "I hate those do-gooder brats pretending to be pirates!" "They act like heroes but call themselves outlaws—it's disgusting!"

The villains in eternal hell cheered.

Crocodile smirked at the praise.

But then—

"Still," said Ace calmly, "Luffy beat you in the end. My little brother isn't the kind of man who stays down."

Silence.

The crowd turned on him instantly, laughing mockingly.

Crocodile's expression darkened, then twisted into a sneer."Well, well, Fire Fist Ace… Whitebeard's little pet. You know why you're here, right? Because you're his brother. You'll die for that, too. Regret it all you want."

But Ace didn't flinch.

He smiled.

"I'm proud to have Luffy as my brother."

Shakky's Bar, Sabaody Archipelago

"Phew…" Shakky exhaled, lighting a cigarette."Even knowing you're sitting here safe and sound, kid, that still gave me chills. How'd you survive that, Luffy?"

"Shishishi~" Luffy just grinned, glancing over at Robin.

And the worlds watching could finally breathe again.

"..."
