Chapter 145 - Chapter 145: Daring to Steal

"Mmrr~"

A panda's cry sounded from outside the house. Fenchu, who was licking milk from a little bowl on the table, lifted his chubby head, his dark round eyes turning toward the doorway.

Right after, a small black-and-white figure darted inside — it was Wolon, who had been kidnapped yesterday.

"Mmrr~"

Kairen walked closer, picked up the chubby cub, patted its soft little back, then produced two tender green bamboo shoots, finally easing the frustration in Wolon's heart.

...

Kairen then looked toward the door.

A beautiful woman wearing simple black-and-white clothes and a white hood stepped in. A black ring framed her eyes, and she carried a gentle, intellectual air.

Kairen greeted her: "Nono!"

Yakushi Nono nodded. In secret, their relationship was superior and subordinate; on the surface, they maintained the disguise of friends.

Tsunade saw a strange woman enter the Four-Pillars House and asked curiously,

"Who is she?"

Even Tsunade doesn't know her — looks like this orphanage holds very little weight in the minds of the higher-ups... Kairen thought silently.

He then introduced Yakushi Nono to Tsunade: "She's the head of the Konoha Orphanage — Yakushi Nono."

Tsunade carefully repeated the name, then shook her head — she had no impression of it at all.

But Tsunade, raised with good manners, greeted Yakushi Nono: "Hello, I'm Tsunade!"

Yakushi Nono responded politely: "I greet Princess Tsunade. Princess Tsunade's name is known to all — to meet you is my honor."

Tsunade looked between Kairen and Yakushi Nono and asked, "You two know each other?"

Kairen nodded: "I'm currently investing in the Konoha Orphanage — you could say I'm Nono's boss."

"I see." Tsunade nodded, though an odd and inexplicable suspicion grew in her heart.

This Yakushi Nono woman is so pretty — what if she steals his heart?

Kairen created a shadow clone — hat red, jacket blue — this was Smart Kairen.

Kairen pointed at the two chubby bear cubs.

"Take care of them. I'm heading out."

Smart Kairen nodded and pulled out a Master Ball from his pocket…

After explaining where he was going to Tsunade, Kairen left with Yakushi Nono.

He arrived in the Senju compound, pressed his palms together, and let his vast chakra surge. In an instant, a thousand or so shadow clones stood across the yard.

Kairen waved his hand. "Everyone, continue yesterday's breeze!"

"Got it, boss!"

Yakushi Nono adjusted her glasses to hide her shock. No matter how many times she saw it, she was always stunned by Kairen's overwhelming chakra.

Plenty of intel ninjas had tried calculating Kairen's chakra — even using the Nine-Tails as a unit — but none had ever determined how much he truly possessed.

In battle, he seemed to have an endless supply. One Root intel ninja had summarized in frustration: Never try to guess how much chakra Moku Kairen has. It's harder than making Danzo-sama Hokage!

Kairen stretched, straightened his gray outer shirt.

Suddenly he remembered he was now part of the Senju. From now on he'd have to carry the clan crest while chopping people — with blessings from Grandpa Hashirama and Grandpa Tobirama.

With a thought, a Senju crest appeared on the back of his gray short-sleeved shirt — like two horizontal flames.

Yakushi Nono quietly watched, a warm feeling rising in her heart.

This ancient clan crest appearing in the village once more… what kind of wind would he stir?

Kairen grabbed Yakushi Nono's hand. She tried her best to pull away, but she was no match for his overwhelming strength.

"As your boss, what's wrong with holding your little hand? Don't tell me my millions went down the drain?"

Did he look like some benevolent saint? If you use his money, don't think you can leave without selling yourself off.

Yakushi Nono had no choice but to let him hold her soft hand. The two looked like a couple as they slowly walked out of the Senju compound.

Tsunade: (눈‸눈)

Tsunade had been hiding inside the doorway watching. Seeing Kairen and Yakushi Nono acting all sweet and cozy, a flame of anger lit in her chest.

That damned little vixen — acting all gentle and innocent — isn't she just here to steal Kairen?!

...

Kairen and Yakushi Nono stepped outside and immediately saw the Panda News Agency staff in panda uniforms.

The shadow clone had an ordinary face. He greeted Kairen: "Boss!"

Kairen nodded, then asked, "How many copies did you sell?"

The clone replied, "The editor-in-chief said there's no profit in this, so we gave them all away. The whole village has received copies."

Kairen didn't care about making money, but if this kept up, the Land of Fire's economy would collapse. Before long, people would need a whole cart of cash just to buy a bun.

He shook his head, took a newspaper from the clone, and handed it to Yakushi Nono.

The two walked slowly toward the Konoha Orphanage. Yakushi Nono was reading the paper, so she slipped free of Kairen's hand.

She silently scanned the contents. As an intel ninja, her analytical ability was strong. The material could fool ordinary villagers and ninjas — but not her.

Ten parts content, five parts headline.

She glanced at Kairen walking ahead, looking around left and right with childlike curiosity, then said quietly,

"You're placing yourself in opposition to the higher-ups. Aren't you afraid of them?"

Kairen didn't bother with her warning. He spotted a small food stall ahead and bought two skewers of takoyaki.

He munched one skewer, then handed the other to Yakushi Nono.

"Here."

Yakushi Nono shook her head. "I don't like meat. You eat it."

Kairen opened his mouth and devoured the whole skewer. Then he surged chakra into his palm — and a cucumber appeared.

"Don't like meat, huh? Then… this is for you!"

Yakushi Nono accepted the cucumber — crisp green, glistening with freshness.

Crunch!

She slowly savored it.

Kairen instructed proudly: "Well? My cucumbers are delicious, right?"

Produce created with Wood Release chakra carried a crisp, tender flavor.

Yakushi Nono nodded.

Kairen again took Yakushi Nono's hand. She tried twice to pull away, then reluctantly let him lead her.

As they passed a street, a wave of youthful energy hit them.

"Youth! Burn bright~!"

A big one and a small one, both in green bodysuits, palms on the ground, sweaty as they charged forward.

Might Guy saw Kairen and stopped. Overflowing with youth, he shouted,

"Kairen! Why haven't you come train with us these past few days?"

Might Duy beside him gave a youthful lecture: "Kairen! Youth is a journey that allows no slack. You cannot quit midway! Put on your bodysuit — let us shout youth together!"
