Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The railyard fence

"Hey there, you have to pay for that!" Someone screams out from the crowd.

"Oh crap! We have to go!" Tomas said.

"Get back here!" He shouted again whilst trying to get past the horde.

I lightly pushed Wesley forward to signal him to run.

The four of us ran, pushing aside people that were in our way.

Many were carrying their bags of fruits and other items while kids were helping their parents.

The pack looked at us with annoyance.

I was still gobbling up the piece of bread I stole from Wesley while I was running.

I glanced back.

Gideon was barely keeping up and might just get kidnapped and ransomed for.

I took my gaze off and looked around.

A consumer and vendor arguing?

Do I need to divert their attention and beat that vendor up? No.

A group of friends talking to each other?

They might just laugh at us or ignore us.

A mother?

She'll probably help the vendor instead.

A flock of pigeons?

What are they gonna do? Attack him like it was a pokemon battle.

Pidgey! Use quick-attack!

And then it will do no damage at all.

I kept looking until I saw a pile of apples in a box.

I went there, grabbed the box and looked back at Gideon.

"Hurry up!" I shouted.

Gideon picked up pace, running faster than before.

Until he ran past me.

"Hey kid! What are you gonna do with th-"

I scattered the heap of apples at the road like splashing a bucket of water at your friend with the apples spread out like a lego piece.

The man stepped and slipped ninety-degrees, hitting head first.

And a flock of birds quickly enveloped the man.

Huh, I guess Pidgey was useful after all.

I looked behind my back and saw a woman's jaw dropped to the ground with her eyes pure black.

I picked up an apple from the ground before giving her a peace sign and running with my tail between my legs.

"Hehehehe."

I kept on running until I finally came out of the mass.

I felt my chest lighter and my breath finer.

I glanced at the streetcar passing by with horse carriages alongside.

"Lukas!" someone sided.

I looked left to see the three of them together.

Then darted towards them.

"Wow, You two are fast.

Gideon, you alright." I said.

"You're sure right I am." He replied.

"Throwing a bunch of apples at him was a smart move but I feel like it's gonna bite us back" Wesley said.

Gideon pulls out a pocket watch to look at the time.

"Did you always have that?" I said.

"I did, care to notice." Whilst giving me 'that look.'

"Guys if we don't hurry up, we're going to miss the reveal." Gideon said.

"At what time will it happen?" I asked.

"Around 3pm, it's 2:31pm right now." Gideon said while saying his watch to us.

"Damn, we really need to go now before we miss it." Tomas said.

Tomas looked at his side and realized.

Wesley was already gone. Since when?

I don't know.

"What the?" Tomas said.

He turned his gaze into another direction and saw Wesley running off.

"Oh that cheeky little bastard." Tomas dashed off before out eyes.

"Oh uh, we've got to catch up with them." I said.

I grabbed Gideons hand and dragged him along.

"Wait! I'll get too tired."

"That's your problem." I replied.

***

"Holy moly." Gideon wheezed, his breath ragged.

"I can see it in the distance but we need a better view of it." Tomas said.

Wesley observed around the area, trying to find a good view behind the fence.

"We really should hurry up, this is a really open space.

someone can see us and make us leave." I said.

"Oh stop whining, we'll be fine." Wesley replied.

Gideon was still out of breath from the running.

"We might be able to climb the fence." Tomas said.

Before I could even say anything, he leaped up and climbed, getting to the other side.

"huh."

"Come on guys, you can do it." Tomas said.

Wesley soon followed and just like Tomas, he went over effortlessly.

"Yo, can you keep up?" I said.

"Yeah yeah yeah, I just need a rest for a sec." Gideon replied.

My fingers touched the iron bars, the warmth seeping into my palm.

Crouching down, I felt the tension in my legs.

I sprung up, using my arms to haul my weight, my hands slapping against a higher bar before I'd even thought about it.

Then climbed like I was using a ladder and leapt out.

Looking back I saw Gideon struggling to even touch the bar higher than him.

"You've got to jump!" Wesley said.

He gave a thumbs up and tried jumping.

"EH!... EAH!... OOF!..." Over and over again, he tried his best to reach the bar.

Oh you pathetic little fool, can't even jump right.

I couldn't stop giggling at the sight of this pitiable little creature that almost made me shed a tear.

"Wow...his really awful at this." Wesley said.

"He's doing his best alright!" Tomas replied.

Clank!

We gasped seeing Gideon finally clasped the rail.

Before we could celebrate, Gideon tried to pull himself up.

"EEEAAAAHHH!."

...

Bro can't even pull his own body weight kufufu.

I could see his veins popping like it's about to explode and his face fully red.

"You have to place your leg on the railing on your bottom sweety." Wesley said.

He lifted his leg and tried putting it down on the bar.

Sweep!

His leg slipped the moment he place it down but hey it was just a simple mistake.

Sweep!

A second time but it's alright.

Sweep!

Uh... Third times the charm?

Sweep!

Mmm... Maybe the forth time?

Sweep!

...

Sweep!

We watched as he continuously failed to place his foot down.

Clank!

"Yeah!" We all shouted in unison with him successfully setting it down.

Before we realized... this wasn't over.

This was just the start of a excruciating long climb greater than reaching the top of mount Everest.
