The drive was quiet after they left the restaurant.
The city slowly closed in around them again, tall buildings replacing the quieter streets near the restaurant. Ava rested her elbow against the door, her chin balanced lightly on her hand, but her mind was already moving ahead.
"After this," she said eventually, breaking the silence, "we should visit the next place Lily was spotted."
Damian's answer came without hesitation.
"No."
Ava turned toward him sharply. "No?"
"No," he repeated, his eyes still on the road.
Her brows drew together. "Why not?"
"We're done for today."
"That's not your decision to make," she said, irritation slipping into her voice. "We're wasting time."
Damian exhaled slowly through his nose. "We're not going anywhere else."
Ava let out a short, humorless laugh. "You're being ridiculous." He always had a way of getting on her nerves and she hated it. When he did or say thing completely out of nowhere.
