They washed, dressed, and went downstairs.

Bruce wanted the ordinary routine today. This was the second time in three mornings that he had deliberately chosen something familiar simply because it was familiar.
He was beginning to understand the value of such habits. The city had its small, dependable rhythms, and he could use them as anchors amid everything else demanding his attention.
