"Stop dreaming, Rin."
Just as Rin Tohsaka was letting her thoughts run wild, Archer poured cold water on her without hesitation.
"Even if he has no interest in making a wish, don't forget that he has three Servants."
Rin Tohsaka: ...
Right. She had almost forgotten that part.
Servants participated in the Holy Grail War to use the Grail's power to fulfill their wishes.
There was only one Holy Grail.
And only one wish.
No matter how she looked at it, it clearly wasn't her turn.
"Who's dreaming? Of course I know that," Rin Tohsaka said, refusing to admit that she'd just been fantasizing.
She immediately shot back at her Servant.
Archer shrugged, looking indifferent.
Shirou Emiya sat quietly to the side, carefully observing Archer.
Is this guy really my future self? His personality is way too different.
Archer noticed Shirou Emiya's gaze.
He snorted and turned his head away.
Seeing this, Rin Tohsaka said, "What's wrong? Embarrassed to see your past self?"
Shirou Emiya looked confused.
Is that how it is?
On the other side, Emiya suddenly laughed.
Rin Tohsaka frowned. "What are you laughing at? Am I wrong?"
"Of course you're wrong," Emiya said with a smile.
"Do you know why your Servant wants to participate in this Holy Grail War?"
Rin Tohsaka didn't know. Archer had never told her.
"It's to kill his past self," Emiya said flatly, revealing the truth without hesitation.
Shirou Emiya froze and looked at Archer in disbelief.
Archer remained silent.
He didn't deny it.
Rin Tohsaka sucked in a breath, completely stunned.
"Kill his past self? Why?"
Emiya thought for a moment, then asked, "Let me ask you this. When you look back at yourself now, have you ever thought that you were stupid at some point in the past and wished you could erase that version of yourself?"
Rin Tohsaka: ...
After hearing that, Rin Tohsaka couldn't help but recall some of the stupid things she'd done as a child.
Looking back now, they were painfully embarrassing.
"Is that really the reason?"
"That's right. Some people are just that ruthless. If they get the chance, they won't let it slip," Emiya said.
Shirou Emiya couldn't stand it anymore.
Even as someone who tried to be good, this reason was too absurd.
So he looked straight at his future self.
"I can't accept that kind of reason."
Archer met his gaze.
His eyes were filled with killing intent.
"Your naivety will get a lot of people killed."
Shirou Emiya was stunned.
I'll get a lot of people killed?
Archer continued calmly, "If you give up this game of being a hero of justice, I can let you live."
Rin Tohsaka couldn't help but ask, "Hey, what does that mean?"
Emiya explained, "It's simple. The young Shirou Emiya knows that his father was a hero of justice, but later gave it up. So he wants to inherit that ideal and has been working toward it."
"Later, he was framed by the people he saved and died tragically due to a comrade's betrayal. He was sent to the gallows as the source of a conflict."
"After death, Shirou Emiya became a Heroic Spirit. But not one from legend. This type is called a Guardian."
"It's an existence created as a defense mechanism by the collective unconscious that believes humanity must continue. It's also known as the Counter Force of the Human Order. The key point is that it selects nameless people-unknown agents of justice."
"So what he does after death is no different from what he did in life. Over time, he's worn down by the endless cycle, left with nothing but regret."
"After realizing that his naive ideal of justice put him in this position, Emiya directed that anger toward his past self, trying to break free from the cycle. But Heroic Spirits are different from their living selves. Changing the past can't erase the original from the Throne of Heroes."
"So he wants to use the paradox of 'killing his past self' to amplify the distortion, causing the hero named Emiya to disappear."
"That's basically it."
"This is something you should have in common with him, Artoria." Emiya turned to look at Artoria, who was seated not far away.
Artoria looked at Shirou Emiya and Archer with a blank expression.
But her eyes were complicated.
Like Archer, she also wanted to change the past.
One wanted the Sword in the Stone to choose a different king.
The other wanted to kill himself.
Medea spoke from the side. "Master, you really like stabbing Heroic Spirits right in their weak spots."
"I just want everything out in the open," Emiya replied. "Hiding things is bad for an alliance. After all, we're on the same side now."
Shirou Emiya finally understood why Archer wanted to kill him.
"You regret it?"
"That's right. I regret it."
Archer's voice was cold.
"That's why I said your naivety will get people killed. So give up, Shirou Emiya. Give up being a hero of justice. Become the hero of one person-Sakura. That's the best ending for you."
Sakura.
Hearing that name, Shirou Emiya was shaken in a way he rarely was.
Emiya added casually, "I also think being the hero of one person is great. That way, you become Emiya the Giant Hero."
Medea couldn't help but laugh softly.
She had seen Oath Under Snow.
CĂş Chulainn scratched his head. "What's 'Emiya the Giant Hero'? Why are you laughing so happily?"
Medea explained, "In a certain world, Shirou Emiya gave up on being a hero of justice and chose to become the hero of one person. Then he defeated six Servants in a single night and won the Holy Grail War."
Rin Tohsaka: ...
CĂş Chulainn: ...
Archer: ...
Shirou Emiya: ...
"One against six? You're joking, right?" Rin Tohsaka couldn't believe it.
Her classmate winning the Holy Grail War in one night was too absurd.
"No. It's true," Medea said.
CĂş Chulainn looked at Shirou Emiya with newfound respect.
Rubbing his chin, he said, "Winning the Holy Grail War in one night... You've got guts. I'll admit you have the qualifications to become a Heroic Spirit."
Archer asked quietly, "Was that person Sakura?"
Medea shook her head. "No. It was a girl named Miyu Sakatsuki. She was later adopted by Kiritsugu Emiya and renamed Miyu Emiya. You could say she was Shirou Emiya's sister."
Emiya sighed.
"That's the power of being a siscon. You can win the Holy Grail War in one night-and even destroy the world."
Rin Tohsaka grimaced. "No, he's just a pervert. By the way, in that world, what happened to my sister, Sakura?"
"She died," Emiya said. "Killed by Shinji Matou within minutes of appearing. Her chest was pierced, and she died horribly. That's why she's mockingly called the 'purple-haired passerby.'"
Rin Tohsaka's expression changed instantly.
"Shinji Matou!"
Even if it wasn't the Sakura of this world, she was still her sister.
To be killed by Shinji Matou...
Rin Tohsaka stood up and walked toward the exit.
Shirou Emiya hurriedly asked, "Um, what are you going to do?"
Rin Tohsaka smiled.
"Do I need to say it?"
She ran her thumb across her throat.
"...I'm going to take out Shinji Matou."
"Don't say something that scary with a smile!" Shirou Emiya jumped up and blocked her.
"That only happened in a parallel world. Sakura in this world is still alive."
"If you want to take out Shinji Matou, I can help," Emiya said. "I can't stand him either."
"Hey!" Shirou Emiya snapped. "Don't add fuel to the fire!"
Emiya replied calmly, "Even if you stop her now, it's useless. Sooner or later, we'll still have to deal with Shinji Matou."
Shirou Emiya froze.
Rin Tohsaka, however, caught the key point.
"Shinji Matou is the Master in this Holy Grail War?"
Emiya shook his head.
"No. It's Sakura Matou. But she handed control of 'Anna' to Shinji Matou."
"'Anna'? Who's that?"
"Medusa. That's her nickname."
Rin Tohsaka clicked her tongue.
"Medusa. Another troublesome one."
"She's not that troublesome," Emiya said. "We have four Servants. That's more than enough to handle one Anna. But I suggest we bring her to our side."
"There are two real problems in this Holy Grail War."
Archer spoke in a low voice. "Yeah. Two troublesome ones."
Rin Tohsaka asked, "Who?"
"First is Heracles," Emiya said. "He has the Noble Phantasm 'Twelve Labors' and can resurrect twelve times."
"The other is Gilgamesh. The oldest of all."
"But we can leave him to Artoria."
Artoria looked surprised.
"He was summoned again?" She had faced Gilgamesh in the previous Holy Grail War.
"He wasn't," Emiya explained. "He stayed. After the last war, he obtained a physical body and has been living in this world."
Artoria nodded.
"I understand. I'll take care of him."
Emiya turned to Archer.
"You'll help too."
Archer frowned. "Why should I listen to you?"
"Because we're allies," Emiya said lightly. "If you refuse, I'll eliminate you here."
He glanced at Rin Tohsaka with a half-smile.
Rin Tohsaka immediately said, "Don't worry. We'll help."
When you're under someone else's roof, you bow your head.
Having three Servants was simply too much of a cheat.
