After distributing the Hunter Licenses, Bean-man began explaining their functions.
With a Hunter License, one could enter ninety percent of countries forbidden to ordinary people.
Seventy-five percent of strictly prohibited regions were also accessible.
Ninety-five percent of public facilities were free to use.
Planes, trains, buses, subways.
No payment required.
Even bank loans treated Hunters as first-class corporations.
The value was obvious.
More importantly, selling a Hunter License could guarantee wealth for seven generations.
That alone showed how absurdly valuable it was.
Emiya didn't pay much attention.
He joined the Hunter Exam for the experience, not the benefits.
Still, there was one thing that mattered.
Nen.
Hunters followed the Ten Hunter Rules.
The second rule required a minimum level of martial ability.
That minimum was Nen.
In other words, all Hunters had to use Nen.
If you couldn't, it didn't matter.
The Hunter Association would teach you.
In the original timeline, Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio all learned Nen only after becoming Hunters.
They were taught by Wing at Heaven's Arena.
And Wing was an official Hunter.
So Emiya knew someone would come.
After the meeting ended, he planned to leave with his group and return to Heaven's Arena.
Then Issho spoke.
"I'm staying."
Emiya paused.
"For what?"
"I promised Netero a match after the exam."
Emiya froze.
"When did that happen? Why don't I know?"
Niikido Toshiro explained, "After the second exam, the Elder and Netero had a match. After that, Netero challenged Issho."
Only then did Emiya remember.
There really had been a match between Netero and Hayato Fūrinji.
Emiya hadn't been interested and skipped it.
Later, in the Trick Tower, he asked Shigure about the result.
Hayato had won by one move.
What Emiya hadn't expected was this.
After losing to Hayato, Netero challenged Issho.
If Emiya wasn't interested in pure martial arts, this was different.
This was Nen versus a Devil Fruit.
Two peak existences.
In either world, it counted as a top-tier battle.
"Can I watch?" Emiya asked.
Issho replied calmly, "I agree. But you need Netero's consent."
"A match involves two people."
Emiya nodded.
"Then I'll wait."
Issho left briefly.
When he returned, he said, "He agreed. Three days from now."
Emiya stopped talking about leaving.
He stayed at the hotel.
Three days later, he would watch a peak match.
The next morning at seven.
Emiya was brushing his teeth when he heard knocking.
He walked out and opened the door.
"Yo. Morning."
A beautiful woman with multiple ponytails stood there, smiling.
Menchi.
Emiya stepped aside.
"What brings you here?"
Menchi sat on the sofa, crossing her legs.
"Two things."
"First, I'm treating you to a meal. You gave me some amazing food before. I'm returning the favor."
Emiya nodded.
"And the second?"
"You're a Hunter now," Menchi said. "So I'm here to teach you Nen."
That surprised him.
"Then I'll have to thank you."
Menchi waved it off.
"Where are the others? Teaching one by one is annoying. Gather everyone."
"I'll get them."
Emiya left Menchi in the room and gathered the others.
A few minutes later, Issho and the rest arrived.
Menchi looked around.
"How much do you know about Nen?"
"I've told them the basics," Emiya said. "Life energy control."
"That's correct," Menchi replied. "More precisely, Nen is the ability to freely control Aura-the life energy that overflows from the body."
Hayato Fūrinji raised an eyebrow.
Martial artists also had aura.
But it wasn't quite the same.
He didn't interrupt.
"Aura exists in everyone," Menchi continued. "Most people just can't control it."
"Nen has four methods. Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu."
"These are the Four Major Principles."
"They form the foundation of all combat techniques."
"In essence, it's cultivation of will."
"Ten keeps Aura within the body. It strengthens you and slows aging."
"Zetsu suppresses Aura. It erases presence and restores extreme fatigue."
"Ren releases Aura in large quantities."
Menchi explained carefully.
She demonstrated repeatedly.
Half an hour passed.
Finally, she stopped.
"Any questions?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"Good," Menchi said. "There are two ways to awaken Nen."
"First, slow cultivation."
"With your strength, six months. Maybe even three."
"The second is forced awakening."
"I inject Aura into your body to open your Aura nodes."
"But if you can't control it quickly, your life energy will leak."
"You'll collapse."
"It can even be fatal."
"Aura is life itself."
She looked at them seriously.
"Choose."
Emiya spoke immediately.
"The first."
Menchi frowned.
"Are you sure? Very few people can control Aura quickly."
"One in a million."
"It's fine," Emiya said calmly. "I can do it."
Not because he thought himself a genius.
Because he had a cheat.
Telekinesis.
Nen wasn't the same thing.
But control was control.
He believed he could use telekinesis to guide his life energy.
Menchi thought about his strange abilities.
She nodded.
"Alright. Take off your shirt."
"I'll open your Tenketsu."
Emiya complied and stood in front of her.
"Turn around."
He did.
A slender hand pressed against his back.
"Focus," Menchi said softly. "Feel it. I'm injecting Aura."
The moment she finished speaking, heat surged into him.
It flowed through his entire body.
Then Menchi paused.
"...Hey."
"...Your life energy is ridiculous."
"Are you even human?"
The Aura she injected barely made a dent.
His life energy dwarfed it.
More than a hundred normal people combined.
Menchi increased her output.
Emiya's body trembled.
Something opened.
Heat poured from his pores, dissolving into the air.
