Shizuka waved her hand enthusiastically. "Let's go."
The group accelerated and headed for their next destination.
According to Nojiko, Nami had taken the injured and helpless Arlong to claim the bounty.
To avoid Captain Nezumi, she had deliberately chosen a more distant Marine base.
The Marine 153rd Branch.
At least one or two days farther than the Sixteenth Branch.
They thought it would be safe there.
No one expected Nami's luck to be that bad.
Captain Nezumi just happened to be visiting.
And the commander of that branch believed Nezumi's slander and immediately detained her.
To be honest, the number 153 felt oddly familiar to Emiya.
He thought about it for a while.
Then it clicked.
The Marine 153rd Branch.
Shells Town.
The commander here was Axe-Hand Morgan.
A remarkable man.
In his youth, Morgan had been a hot-blooded Marine recruit.
During a mission, his entire crew was slaughtered by "Hundred-Claw" Kuro, and Morgan's jaw was shattered.
Kuro's subordinate, Jango, hypnotized him, making him believe he had personally captured Kuro.
Morgan turned in the wrong man and was promoted as a result.
But the hypnosis twisted his personality.
The passionate recruit became arrogant, cruel, and indifferent.
Through continued service, he rose to captain of the 153rd Branch and ruled it like a tyrant.
Marines and civilians alike lived in fear.
It wouldn't be until a year later that he would be defeated by Luffy.
Afterward, Morgan would be escorted by Vice Admiral Garp.
He would rebel.
Injure Garp.
Steal a ship.
And escape.
That part was impressive.
Garp was a Marine hero.
Roger's rival.
Dragon's father.
The man who helped defeat the Rocks Pirates decades ago.
That pirate crew had once dominated the seas.
Three of today's Four Emperors were former members.
Even the Golden Lion had been among them.
Yet they were crushed by Garp and Roger.
And Morgan had injured Garp.
If taken seriously, that would imply Morgan rivaled an Emperor.
World-shaking strength.
Completely out of place in a small branch.
If the World Government knew, they'd suspect some earth-shattering secret.

Emiya admitted it.
He couldn't make that story convincing even to himself.
Enough thinking.
They arrived at the Marine 153rd Branch.
Shells Town.
From the outside, it looked ordinary.
A bit more prosperous than most towns.
Nowhere near Loguetown.
But in truth, both Marines and civilians lived under Morgan's iron rule.
They feared even speaking his name.
The three descended into the central plaza.
Marines who had been training froze on the spot.
Devil Fruit users weren't unknown.
But in the East Blue, they were rare.
To ordinary Marines, someone like Emiya might as well be invincible.
Still, no one ran.
They surrounded him.
A square-faced Marine stepped forward, forcing himself to stay calm.
"Who are you, and why are you trespassing in a Marine base?"
Emiya answered evenly.
"A girl named Nami brought Arlong here to claim a bounty. Captain Morgan detained her instead of paying. I'm here for her."
The Marine's scalp tingled.
"That girl is an accomplice of the Arlong Pirates," he said. "She's a pirate. We have the right to detain pirates."
"She didn't join them voluntarily," Emiya replied.
"...That requires investigation."
"I don't need an investigation," Emiya said calmly. "I need you to hand her over."
"That's not possible," the Marine said after a pause. "We can't release a pirate based on your word alone."
Emiya smiled slightly.
"I don't dislike Marines. There are bad ones, sure. But there are also those who still fight for justice."
The Marine let out a breath. "Thank you."
"But," Emiya continued, "I'm taking Nami today. How about you help me once, and pretend you didn't see anything?"
Before the Marine could respond, a voice cut in.
"Who's so bold as to demand a pirate?"
The Marines parted instinctively.
A tall, burly man stepped forward.
Metal jaw.
Marine insignia.
An axe embedded in his arm.
Morgan.
As he appeared, the surrounding Marines didn't relax.
Their expressions darkened.
Fear crept in.
Morgan ruled through intimidation.
He looked down at Emiya.
"So you're the one causing trouble in my territory. You must be that woman's accomplice. Surrender now, and I might-"
"Get lost."
Emiya didn't let him finish.
There was a dull boom.
Morgan flew backward like he'd been hit by a runaway train.
He smashed through buildings in succession.
Then embedded himself in a wall.
Unconscious.
Instantly.
The plaza went dead silent.
Eyes widened.
Mouths hung open.
Emiya turned back to the Marines.
"Now," he said mildly, "can you give me Nami?"
No one answered.
The square-faced Marine clenched his teeth and stepped forward.
"Don't hurt anyone else. I'll take you to her."
"Thank you."
He led them into the main building.
Down to the prison.
Nami sat on a bed inside a cell, hugging her knees, eyes unfocused.
"Nami!" Nojiko rushed to the bars.
Nami looked up, stunned.
"Nojiko... Emiya... Shizuka... am I dreaming?"
Emiya's telekinetic force tore the bars apart.
"Come out, Nami."
She stumbled forward and embraced Nojiko.
"I thought I'd never see you again."
When she'd been captured, she'd assumed it was over.
Of everything she regretted-
Not saying goodbye hurt the most.
"I'm so glad you're okay," Nojiko said, holding her tight.
Emiya turned to the Marine, pressed a hand to the wall, and created a door.
Beyond it was Nami's house.
"Let's go. This isn't the place to talk."
Nami and Nojiko nodded and stepped through.
Shizuka followed.
Before going in, Emiya looked back at the square-faced Marine.
"Report your captain's actions. That man doesn't deserve the uniform."
Then he stepped through.
The door vanished.
The wall returned to normal.
Leaving behind only silence.
And a Marine who didn't know what he'd just witnessed.
