Emiya and his party were momentarily confused.
He hadn't expected the Adventurers' Guild to pull something like this.
The guild bar had been redecorated, and a bright banner hung overhead, clearly reading:
"Celebration for the Hero Party Who Defeated the Demon King's Executive."
Aqua looked disappointed. "Huh? It's a party? I thought we were here to get our reward."
Luna let out a dry laugh. "Actually, there is a bounty for the headless knight. It's already prepared."
"Really?" Aqua's eyes lit up as she rushed to the counter.
"Since it was a Demon King's army executive, the bounty must be huge."
Luna smiled bitterly. "Yes. It's a very large amount. About four hundred million Eris."
"Four... four... four hundred million?!"
Aqua let out a shrill scream.
Even Emiya was briefly surprised.
In the original events, Aqua's party had only received three hundred million, then immediately fallen into debt after Aqua flooded the town.
But he quickly understood why it was different this time.
Back then, many adventurers in Axel had joined the battle and shared the bounty afterward. Kazuma's party had received three hundred million because they were the main force, not because they were the only contributors.
This time was different.
From start to finish, only Emiya, Aqua, and Megumin had fought.
Kazuma and Darkness had effectively done nothing. Other adventurers hadn't even qualified as support.
They were spectators.
So the entire credit belonged to Emiya's party.
Four hundred million wasn't unreasonable.
Once the amount was confirmed, Aqua couldn't hold herself back anymore.
"This is amazing!!"
She jumped onto a long bench, then onto a table, and shouted loudly,
"Everyone! All drinks today are on me-Lady Aqua! So cheer for me, Lady Aqua!"
The adventurers exchanged looks.
Then the guild erupted.
"Long live Lady Aqua!"
"Lady Aqua is incredible!"
"Lady Aqua, you're my idol!"
Aqua laughed freely amidst the cheers.
Someone suddenly shouted, "Lady Aqua! Please show us your signature party trick!"
Aqua immediately pulled out her fan and began performing with confidence.
Kazuma shook his head. "She's getting way too carried away."
"Let her have today," Emiya said calmly.
"Aqua played a major role in defeating the headless knight."
Without her skills, the fight wouldn't have been nearly as easy.
Megumin and Darkness both nodded.
Seeing everyone agree, Kazuma had nothing more to say. He half-heartedly joined in, and before long, he blended into the crowd.
Drinking.
Shouting.
Letting loose.
Many of them were venting the fear they had felt the day before. When the headless knight appeared, most of them had been certain they were going to die.
It wasn't a monster they could fight.
The fact that they survived at all felt unreal.
So when the Guild suggested a celebration, no one refused.
They embraced it.
The party lasted from day until night.
By the end, nearly all the adventurers were passed out, sprawled across the bar floor.
Only a handful were still standing.
Emiya was one of them.
He always drank in moderation. He hated hangovers.
Tonight was no exception.
Megumin was also still sober-for a simpler reason.
She'd been drinking juice.
No one had the heart to toast a kid.
Aside from them, only a few women who didn't drink much and some staff members remained upright.
"...Um."
A quiet voice came from beside Emiya.
He turned and saw Luna standing there, fidgeting.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Please accept this," Luna said, handing him a piece of paper.
For a moment, Emiya thought it might be a love letter.
It wasn't.
It was a bill.
The itemized expenses totaled roughly three million Eris.
...So awkward for a bill.
"I understand," Emiya said with a wry smile.
"Just deduct it from our reward."
Luna nodded, but instead of leaving, she bowed deeply.
"Thank you, Mr. Emiya. Thank you for saving Axel. And for saving me."
"There's no need," Emiya said, shaking his head as he glanced sideways.
"The headless knight came here because of someone in our party. Cleaning it up was our responsibility."
Megumin immediately turned away, guilt written all over her face.
Luna straightened. "Even so, you saved all of us. Please accept my gratitude."
Emiya sighed, then puffed out his chest. "Alright. I accept it."
The other staff members bowed as well.
Emiya accepted it calmly, then spoke once they straightened up.
"It's late. We'll be heading back. Leave the cleanup to you."
"Please leave it to us," Luna replied.
Emiya nodded.
Invisible telekinetic hands lifted the unconscious Aqua, Kazuma, and Darkness.
With Megumin beside him, Emiya left the Adventurers' Guild.
The staff watched them go, only returning inside once they disappeared from view.
A few days later, the four hundred million Eris was officially deposited.
Possibly because the amount was so absurd, Aqua and Kazuma immediately fell into a shocking level of degeneracy.
They refused to take new quests.
"We already have four hundred million Eris," Kazuma declared.
"Why would we risk our lives for quests worth a few hundred thousand? What if we die? Wouldn't that be a waste of four hundred million?"
Darkness was deeply troubled.
She quietly told Emiya, "If this keeps up, Kazuma is really going to become useless."
"Just leave them alone," Emiya replied.
"Don't think of four hundred million as a huge amount. Split evenly, it's only eighty million each. Once they spend it, they'll go back to work."
"That's still an enormous sum," Darkness said anxiously.
"With the cabbage hunt money included, they each have nearly a hundred million. Do you really think they can spend all that?"
She was genuinely worried.
If they stopped taking quests, how was she supposed to get beaten by monsters?
"Don't worry," Emiya said calmly.
"Don't underestimate how fast those two can burn money."
What he didn't say was this:
They wouldn't spend it.
They'd lose it.
Aqua was terrible with money. When she got carried away, disasters followed.
Megumin was a Crimson Demon who had to cast Explosion Magic daily.
Property damage was inevitable.
Compensation would be massive.
In Emiya's eyes, the money wouldn't last long at all.
Maybe a few months.
A series of incidents.
Then it would all be gone.
But explaining that felt awkward, so he simply praised their "spending potential" instead.
"In short," Emiya concluded, "let them enjoy themselves for a few days. I'm also planning to take this chance to travel around Axel for a bit before coming back."
"Huh?" Darkness froze.
"Emiya, you're leaving?"
"Yeah. Just traveling," Emiya said with a smile.
"I'll be back soon."
He had already decided this the moment he received the bounty.
He had been in this world for quite some time.
It was time to go home.
The next day, Emiya said goodbye to Aqua and the others.
Then he left Axel.
