Nate was waking up with Fumika, Hailey, and Kunou to go to the arcade to meet with Imada and Gorota. Whisper and Jibanyan were also there, but once again, only Nate, Fumika, Hailey and Kuroka can see them
Kunou was hugging his right arm, her 6 fox tails hidden under, Tanuki magic as always.
Once they arrived close, Imada waved at them, to most people they didn't know Nate had a harem
But by how close Kunou was, even if they didn't know she was his fiancée, they were safe to say they were dating.
Even though the Middle School, they didn't know the full extent of this.
Nate walked as he spoke, "Sorry for being late, Martial Arts class took longer than usual".
Imada shrugged with his usual grin. "Man, no worries, bro! You're basically living the life of a shounen protagonist already. I'm just surprised you even have time to hang out anymore."
Gorota nodded, holding his soda. "Yeah, between school, training, and… well, them," he motioned toward the girls behind Nate, "I'm impressed you haven't collapsed yet."
Hailey crossed her arms and smirked. "We make sure he doesn't. That's our job."
Kunou gave a sly little grin and clung a bit closer to Nate's arm. "Especially mine."
Imada leaned back. "Bro's got a bodyguard, a kitsune princess, and a punch-happy girl all rolled into one squad. I'm just saying, I feel underleveled here."
Before Nate could respond, Jibanyan suddenly pointed upward. "Uh… Nate-nyan? Is it just me, or is the sky turning all dramatic again?"
Everyone glanced up—the bright blue afternoon had shifted to a dull gray. The clouds above swirled unnaturally, a faint ripple of energy pulsing through the air.
Fumika blinked. "Wait… that's not normal rain cloud movement."
Whisper panicked immediately, floating in circles. "W-wait! This energy signature! Oh no! That's not just rain—it's Yokai energy! The bad kind!"
Hailey's brow furrowed as the first drops began to fall, thick and heavy. "Yokai storm?"
Nate looked up, his expression growing serious. "Yeah… and it's not natural. Everyone—get inside the arcade."
As thunder cracked across the sky, something shimmered in the reflection of the puddles—a faint outline of figures watching them from the distorted water.
Kunou's tails twitched beneath the illusion. "Nate… someone's here."
Nate narrowed his eyes. "Yeah. I feel them too."
Imada looked at him as he spoke. "Is this something supernatural?".
Nate looked at him, as he shrugged. "Yeah, definitely"
Whisper moved his tablet as he spoke. "It's probably, Ame Onna"
Nate was surprised as he spoke. "But she is a kind Spirit".
Hailey looked at the rain as she spoke. "Is she said again".
Imada looked at them, as he spoke. "Um, guys?"
Nate blinked as he looked at Imada and Gorota. "Right, you guys can't hear or see Whisper".
Gorota looked at him as he spoke. "Yeah, you told us about all this supernatural but um... We still can't see the Ghost Buttler".
Nate rubbed the back of his neck, looking a little awkward. "Right, right. Forgot that part."
Whisper puffed up, clearly offended. "Ghost butler?! I am a dignified Yo-kai Advisor and caretaker of balance, thank you very much!"
Hailey smirked. "You are floating in circles holding a tablet like a waiter, Whisper."
Whisper let out a dramatic gasp. "Hailey! Betrayal from my own pupil!"
Meanwhile, the rain was getting heavier. The rhythmic patter against the arcade's glass front echoed unnaturally—too in sync, like every drop was part of a deliberate rhythm.
Fumika looked around. "This is weird… the sound isn't changing. It's like the rain's falling with purpose."
Nate's face hardened as he stepped toward the door. "That's because it is. Ame Onna's crying again."
Kunou frowned softly. "Crying? But why?"
Whisper scanned the readings on his Yo-kai Pad, his expression turning grim. "It seems someone—or something—has tampered with her emotional balance. The sorrow in her aura has… doubled."
Hailey crossed her arms. "So… she's not just crying rain this time, huh?"
Jibanyan's ears twitched. "Nyah… that means we're about to get drenched and possibly punched!"
Imada and Gorota just stared, trying to make sense of what was happening as the temperature suddenly dropped.
A voice echoed softly through the rain outside, gentle but heavy with grief.
> "Why… does it always have to hurt…?"
The group froze. Nate sighed. "Yup… that's her."
Kunou's tails bristled beneath the illusion. "Then we help her."
Nate nodded. "Right. No fighting unless we have to. Let's calm her down."
He stepped out into the rain, the world dimming under gray clouds as a faint figure began to form before him—pale, dripping wet, her long black hair clinging to her face, sorrow rolling off her like waves.
Ame Onna had arrived.
Everyone froze as Ame Onna emerged fully from the veil of rain. Her form shimmered between shadow and mist, each droplet carrying a faint whisper of sorrow.
For a moment, no one spoke.
The Ame Onna standing before them looked nothing like the gentle spirit Nate and Hailey remembered. Her skin was pale as moonlight but mottled with deep grey veins that pulsed faintly, her long black hair plastered against her hollow face. The kimono she wore was tattered, drenched and clinging to her frail frame. The once delicate paper umbrella she carried now leaked black rain, its edges melting into mist.
She smiled—but it wasn't kind. It was the weary, broken smile of someone lost to despair.
Imada's voice trembled slightly. "Th-that's… not what I imagined from a rain spirit."
Hailey, meanwhile, quickly unlocked her phone, scrolling through her Yokai Archive app. "No, that's not her at all. Look—this is what Ame Onna is supposed to look like."
She turned the screen around.
On it was an image of a radiant woman with serene grace. Her flowing kimono shimmered with blue and green hues like water under sunlight, her paper umbrella blooming like a lotus in the rain. Her dark hair was adorned with hydrangeas and jade ornaments, and her eyes held the calm of a thousand gentle showers. Even surrounded by rain, she seemed to bring warmth.
Imada's jaw dropped. "You're telling me that's the same person?!"
Gorota blinked. "What the hell happened to her then?"
Nate frowned, scanning her aura. "That's what I want to know… her spirit's twisted. It's not corruption from within—it's something added to her."
Whisper floated closer, eyes wide. "Indeed! Her Yo-kai energy is warped, almost… infected! This isn't sorrow—it's despair laced with something foreign."
Ame Onna tilted her head slightly, her wet hair sliding across her cheek as she whispered, voice echoing like rainfall on stone. "Why… did you forget me…? Why did the world leave me behind?"
Fumika's hand tightened around her pendant. "She's talking about the legends… the people who stopped believing in her."
Hailey took a step forward. "Then we remind her who she really is."
Nate held out his arm to stop her, shaking his head. "Careful. That darkness in her—it's feeding on emotion. If we push too hard, it'll lash out."
The air grew colder. The rain intensified, swirling around Ame Onna like a protective barrier.
Kunou's eyes flickered golden. "So… what do we do?"
Nate took a slow breath, summoning a faint spiritual light to his hand. "We show her that she's still remembered—still loved. Whisper, start the purification chant. Hailey, Kunou, Fumika—focus your spirit bond energy. We're going to cleanse that sorrow away."
Ame Onna's expression shifted slightly, confusion flickering through the despair. "Loved…?"
Ame Onna moved her hand summoning water then sent then back, Nate used Spirit Bond to protect Imada and Gorota, protecting the Fragile humans
Fumika got up as she spoke. "That's normal work".
Hailey got up as she spoke. "Yeah, so that destroys the Theory of her story being forgotten to make her into this".
Nate stood up, summoning his Yo-kai Watch as his eyes narrowed. "Then that means… someone's controlling her."
Kunou's tails twitched beneath her illusion, her voice calm but edged with worry. "She doesn't feel like herself. The rain—it's too thick, like it's laced with Youki."
Whisper floated beside him, scanning the storm with his tablet. "Confirmed! It's a corrupted aura! Someone's tampering with her emotions—this isn't a natural sorrow!"
Fumika clenched her fists. "Whoever did this… they're turning kind Yo-kai into monsters."
Hailey nodded, lightning flashing behind her. "Then we stop whoever's behind it before more get twisted."
Nate cracked his knuckles, stepping forward through the rain. "Alright then… let's bring her back to her true self."
As Ame Onna raised her hands again, the water swirling into blades, Nate's Yo-kai Watch glowed bright blue—calling forth the Yo-kai who shared her pain.
"Whisper," Nate said. "Get me her emotional reading."
Whisper saluted. "Already on it, sir! But hurry—the corruption's spreading fast!"
The battle between sorrow and resolve was about to begin.
Fumika activated her Yokai Pendant as she summoned, Komiger. "I will try and connect with Her Echo"
Hailey used her Yokai watch as she called her Yokai friends. "Come out, Kyubi, Damona, Statiking, Reuknight and Usapyon".
Nate loaded his Yokai watch. "Insomnia, Forstina, Kuroka, Mermaidyn".
He then puts one more metal in. "Hare Onna".
The first to come out was a happy-looking humanoid with blonde hair, a peach-colored dress with yellow polka dots, and a sunflower parasol;
[Insert image of Hare Onna]
Then came everyone else
Hare Onna spun gracefully as she emerged, her sunflower parasol spinning like a beacon in the dim rain. The dark clouds above seemed to hesitate—almost shy in her warm presence.
"Ah, Nate-kun!" she chimed brightly, her voice like the first sunlight after a storm. "Such gloomy weather! Let's make it sunny again, shall we?"
The others gathered around her—Insomnia's dreamy eyes glowing faintly, Frostina forming icy mist around her hands, Mermaidyn floating gracefully in a sphere of water, and Kuroka crouched low with her tails flicking, ready for battle.
Hailey's team appeared next, Kyubi's flames dancing blue, Damona levitating with elegance, Statiking crackling with lightning, Reuknight brandishing his glowing sword, and Usapyon loading his blaster.
Fumika stood ready with Komiger, her pendant glowing faintly golden. "Her Echo is faint... but it's still there. I can feel Ame Onna's real heart beneath all this corruption."
The rain poured harder as Ame Onna's voice echoed through the storm—soft, trembling, yet full of pain.
"Why… why must it always rain when I cry…? Why can't anyone hear me…?"
Nate raised his hand, Spirit Bond pulsing around him. "We hear you, Ame Onna! You don't have to cry alone anymore!"
Hare Onna stepped forward, parasol glowing with golden light. "Let's dry those tears together."
The two opposing forces—Rain and Sun—clashed, droplets of light and water scattering through the air as the purification began.
Exactly right — in Yo-kai Watch 4, it's confirmed that Ame Onna (Rain Woman) and Hare Onna (Sunny Woman) are two sides of the same Yo-kai. Hare Onna represents the "light side," while Ame Onna represents the "shadow," both born from the same soul but split by emotion — joy and sorrow.
So Nate summoning Hare Onna here is actually perfectly fitting — it sets up a beautiful thematic clash and emotional balance.
The wind howled as Hare Onna raised her parasol, golden rays pushing back the storm.
But Ame Onna only screamed louder, her tears turning into bullets of rain that slammed into the ground like shrapnel.
Fumika pressed her hands together, Komiger roaring beside her. "Ame Onna! I can feel your pain! Please, listen—"
A wave of water exploded outward, cutting her off. Kyubi dashed in front, tails flaring. "Not listening, huh? Then we'll make her listen!"
He unleashed blue foxfire that met the torrent head-on, evaporating steam into the air.
Nate flicked his wrist, the Yokai Watch glowing as his Spirit Bond activated. "Everyone—support Hare Onna!"
Mermaidyn sang, creating ripples that softened Ame Onna's attacks.
Frostina froze the rain midair, turning droplets into glittering crystals.
Kuroka appeared in the mist, darting in and out like a shadow, slashing through water tendrils that tried to strike Nate.
Hare Onna twirled her parasol and spoke gently, even while deflecting water blades.
"Why do you fight the sun, dear sister? You once danced with me beneath the rainbow."
But Ame Onna's voice broke, her tone soaked with despair.
"Because the sun left me first!"
Thunder cracked.
Hailey clenched her fists, rainwater dripping from her hair. "Fumika, keep trying! I'll handle the rest!"
She dashed forward, landing a Void Fist straight through a wave—its vacuum pressure tearing the water apart.
Statiking and Reuknight moved in sync, electricity coursing through the puddles while Damona's dark energy formed a barrier around the humans.
Fumika gritted her teeth, aura flaring faintly as she reached her hand toward Ame Onna's heart. Komiger's energy pulsed with her, trying to resonate with the fading Echo.
"Come on... don't let the sadness define you."
The rain began to falter. But then—Ame Onna screamed again, her tears turning red. "You don't understand… you can't stop the storm in me!"
A massive wave rose up, ready to crush them all—
—and Hare Onna stepped forward, her parasol glowing blindingly.
"Then let the sun rise again."
