"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 202: I Sell My Skills, Not My Body…
The magic circle blazed, flooding the bathroom with eerie light. Yor didn't flinch. Instinctively, she gripped her twin kunai, red eyes locked on the shimmering sigils. Assassin training meant never letting your guard down—no matter how bizarre the situation.
The light pulsed, and a figure emerged—a young man, black-haired, floating half a meter above the floor as if gravity were optional.
Yor sized him up instantly: young, almost boyish, with neat black hair and casual clothes. Yet here he was, hovering in midair.
Draconis Yi had arrived.
The moment he materialized, a heavy metallic scent assaulted his senses. Even for a demon, the blood in this room was overwhelming. He wrinkled his nose, scanning the carnage beyond the bathroom—dozens of bodies, each dispatched with surgical precision. Not a crime of passion; a professional hit.
Only one person alive, and she looked perfectly at ease, washing blood from her hands as if cleaning up spilled wine. Draconis Yi kept his tone measured, ignoring the corpses.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Draconis Yi—summoned by your contract. I'm a demon."
Yor blinked, kunai still raised. "Um… I'm Yor Briar. Demon—as in, the fairy tale kind?"
She looked genuinely puzzled, her innocence almost comical.
"You could put it that way, Miss Yor. Angels and demons both exist. What you just activated was a demon summoning spell. I can grant your wish—fulfill your request."
"Really?" Yor's eyes widened.
She accepted the revelation with a childlike ease—no panic, no existential crisis.
"So fairy tales are real? That's wonderful! Yuri would be thrilled."
She smiled, delight lighting up her face.
Draconis Yi stifled a laugh. Demons, sure—but fairy tales? Not quite the same thing. Still, her composure was impressive. Maybe it came with the assassin territory.
Before he could say more, Yor's brow furrowed.
"But… aren't demons supposed to be evil?"
"Stories are biased. Angels and demons have been at war for ages. Back then, angels painted us as villains to boost their own reputation."
"Oh, that makes sense! So demons in fairy tales are actually good people. I've been unfair to them when telling Yuri bedtime stories…"
Draconis Yi couldn't help but smile. If he hadn't lived it himself, he'd never have guessed how skewed the legends were.
He shifted focus, channeling magic to sense the wish that had triggered the summoning. Demon contracts always activated when the client's desire peaked—one quick scan, and he'd know exactly what Yor wanted.
"So, Miss Yor, your request is…"
He paused, eyebrows lifting in surprise.
"…to marry me?"
He tilted his head, then smoothed his expression and looked her in the eye.
"Miss Yor, I'm not that kind of demon. I sell my skills, not my body."
Yor froze, cheeks flushing. Her confusion was almost adorable.
"Huh? That's what I wished for? Um, Mr. Demon, you've got it wrong…"
"Just call me Draconis Yi."
"Okay… Draconis Yi."
She rushed to explain, stumbling through the details—her assassin life, the office gossip, the dreaded party, and the need for a male companion.
Draconis Yi listened, piecing it together.
Assassin by night, awkward loner by day. All she wanted was someone to pose as her boyfriend and keep the rumors at bay.
"That makes sense. I can help with that, Miss Yor."
"Really? That's a relief… but…" Yor hesitated, eyeing him up and down. "Draconis Yi, how old are you? Won't you look… a bit young?"
"I'll turn seventeen next month."
"Seventeen? I'm… ten years older than you!"
Her hope flickered, then faded. "People will definitely notice…"
Draconis Yi shrugged. "Don't worry about it. I've got a spell—Common Sense Alteration. It changes people's perceptions. No one will bat an eye at the age gap."
He considered her situation. Normally, he'd use the spell to tweak her coworkers' memories or assumptions, but Yor's life was too complicated for a quick fix. The spell only worked when he was present—once he left, everything snapped back.
So, acting was the only option.
He'd play the role of Yor's boyfriend, just long enough for her colleagues to buy the story and leave her alone.
Troublesome, maybe, but compared to his usual contracts, this was a breeze.
