"Lost little puppy...? Lucan?" Kairo was confused for the most part; it was like he was talking to a whole different person.
"Yes."
"Lucan?"
"Yes."
"The Lucan?"
"How many Lucans do you know?"
Kairo was shocked. "You called him a puppy."
"A lost little puppy."
"That's supposed to be better?" Kairo said sarcastically, but Hinari couldn't care less. "It's not supposed to make it better." There was a sultry smile plastered on her face, but the golden, glowing eyes were something that kept drawing his eyes back to them. "Kairo, you're looking at me like you like me."
Kairo shook his head, and she just laughed; it was cold and almost lifeless, but Kairo spoke up quickly, "No! I'm not Lucan." And the laugh became louder: "Lucan this, Lucan that." There wasn't a mock anger like in days past; no, she was mocking him. "You seem to like it more than Hinari does." Kairo's eyebrow rose.
"Yeah, I barely know you. Wait—" But she chuckled; this time, she was amused. "Not what I meant." She sauntered over to Kairo and stood right in front of him; Kairo had to look down at her. "You talk like it raised you." Kairo took a step back because it felt so weird. "Lucan was my mentor." Then she chuckled again; it was like everything he said was wrong and assuming, to her. "Stop laughing."
"No." She took a small pause. "You know what's funny?" She let the conversation breathe, and Kairo filled the silence. "No?" Then she smiled; it was a cruel smile on a 4'8 girl. "The puppy didn't raise another pup..." She let the conversation breathe again. "It just dragged in a stray."
Kairo stopped. "...What?" She just smirked before sitting down on a log cross-legged. "You heard me." It was cruel... "Lucan did mentor me! And I'm not a stray!" He said with such conviction, but she laughed again, which infuriated Kairo, and he clenched his fist instinctively. "Don't get to swinging; you wouldn't win." She then continued, "Then he must have taught you something, then..."
"He taught me how the ABPU works."
She started to tut; she started to wag her finger slowly and abruptly "Tut, tut, tut... any operative could have taught you. What did he teach?" It hurt way more than it should have... she continued, poking the wound. "Valence sensing? He couldn't have; he didn't know it himself."
With every word, her face became more sadistic; she was enjoying this.
"Stop!" Kairo demanded, "She's trying." She spat back immediately, but she continued her list: "Signal Directive? He didn't have one."
"Hand to Hand? No."
"Special Techniques. Not that either."
"Counters? Channeling? Enhancements? Weapon mastery?"
Kairo couldn't answer; tears were pooling at the base of his eyelids. "Kairo?" Kairo looked up. "Go home." She said.
