Chapter 106 - Chapter 106: Infamy and Glory

In stark contrast to his teammates' success, Tang San had become famous for a completely different reason. Relying on bizarre and unpredictable tactics, he had managed to win only a single match in the entire month. One part of the Shrek team was known for being unbelievably strong, while Tang San was known for being unbelievably weak.

As the old saying goes, no one remembers who came in second place. However, people certainly remember the person who is consistently, unfailingly last. This was precisely the situation Tang San found himself in, and it was enough to draw a great deal of attention. The day he finally claimed his first and only victory, the entire Soto Fighting Arena erupted in shock and disbelief. A considerable number of people began discussing what kind of incompetent opponent could have possibly lost to the infamous "Shrek Eight."

The Spirit Master who lost to him was so humiliated that he vanished completely. He never showed his face in the Soto Fighting Arena again, likely feeling that the defeat was too great a shame to bear. Now, nearly every match featuring Tang San was packed to capacity.

The arena manager who had first discovered Tang San was delighted by this turn of events. He had taken a chance on him as an experiment, never imagining the results would be this spectacular. He learned a valuable lesson: being infamous was still a form of fame. As long as people were talking, it was good for business. He realized that audiences didn't just come for intense, high-stakes battles. They also loved the pure entertainment of watching what they considered a circus clown's hilarious performance. It was a spectacle that everyone could enjoy.

What intrigued the audience the most was the paradox of it all. This comical "Shrek Eight" was an official member of the Shrek Team, the same team that currently held an undefeated twenty-seven-game winning streak. At first, many assumed Tang San was just a gimmick, someone deliberately losing to gain popularity. However, officials from the Soto Fighting Arena eventually clarified that "Shrek Eight" was indeed a real member of the Shrek Team. They explained that he was a substitute and, therefore, had not yet had a chance to participate in their team battles.

This revelation created a strange sense of anticipation among the crowds. They were eager to see what would happen if Tang San ever fought in a team battle. The thought of pairing the bumbling "Shrek Eight" with the invincible "Shrek One" on the same stage was a recipe for chaos that everyone wanted to witness.

Meanwhile, in the two-on-two competitions, the combination of Huo Feng and Xiao Wu also achieved an incredible record of twenty-seven consecutive wins. Under Huo Feng's absolute dominance, most matches were over before Xiao Wu even had a chance to make a move. For her, securing twenty-seven victories felt remarkably effortless.

Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing watched their teammates with a hint of envy. Their own duo battles were not nearly as easy. Even so, as Spirit Grandmasters at the peak of the level twenty range, they were a formidable pair. While their record couldn't match the perfection of Huo Feng and Xiao Wu's, it was still the second-best among the Shrek group. They had achieved an excellent record of twenty-two wins and five losses, including an impressive eight-game winning streak that earned them a significant number of points.

The duo of Dai Mubai and Oscar had a tougher time, ending the month with a record of twenty wins and seven losses. Since Oscar was a food-system Spirit Master, their strategy was flawed in the fast-paced two-on-two format. Dai Mubai was essentially fighting alone, and Oscar's support sausages could only do so much. In the matches they lost, their opponents would cleverly bypass Dai Mubai and eliminate Oscar first, leaving Dai Mubai to face a difficult one-on-two situation he couldn't overcome.

In the individual matches, however, every member of Shrek Academy performed exceptionally well. Competing in the level thirty category, Dai Mubai secured twenty-five wins, with his only two losses coming against control-system Spirit Masters.

Huo Feng's performance was nothing short of legendary. Competing in the level thirty Spirit Elder category, he maintained a perfect, undefeated record. His stunning success left the other Shrek members in awe. They had noticed that regardless of the match type—one-on-one, two-on-two, or a team battle—any fight Huo Feng participated in ended in victory. The reason for their team's perfect record was self-evident.

Xiao Wu's performance was a bit less consistent. Although her Teleportation ability was unique, she sometimes faced opponents who could perfectly counter her, but she still managed to secure a solid twenty wins. Ma Hongjun was also thriving in the level twenty category, earning twenty wins in twenty-seven battles. Zhu Zhuqing's individual record was even more impressive, slightly surpassing Ma Hongjun's with twenty-two wins, a terrifyingly high win rate.

When all was said and done, Huo Feng was the month's biggest winner. Although the Great Spirit Arena calculated winning streaks for each of the three match types separately, his multiple streaks meant his points were set to surge. If not for the arena's rule that bonus points were only calculated at the end of the month, his Iron Spirit badge would have been upgraded long ago.

Despite this, Shrek Academy's overall dominant performance had captured the attention of the Great Spirit Arena's management. If not for the fact that their badge levels were still too low to meet the minimum Silver Spirit requirement, they would have already been invited to compete in the main Central Spirit Arena.

The Shrek Team had their first match on the second day of the month. The month had thirty days, and after today's final matches, their time here would be over. Their bonus points would finally be calculated, and their Iron Spirit badges would become a thing of the past.

Even more remarkably, the intense training had led to significant breakthroughs. Dai Mubai's spirit power had broken through to level thirty-eight, a result of his diligent cultivation and months of practical combat. Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong had also improved, reaching level twenty-eight and twenty-seven respectively, making steady progress toward becoming Spirit Elders.

Xiao Wu, who had been at level twenty-nine for some time, had actually broken through to level thirty much earlier. However, this presented a unique problem for her. As a hundred-thousand-year-old Spirit Beast in human form, she couldn't hunt other Spirit Beasts to obtain a spirit ring like a normal Spirit Master. To avoid raising suspicion, she needed to find a chance to slip away from the group, so she could later claim she had acquired her third spirit ring on her own.

Huo Feng had also broken through, reaching level thirty-nine and standing on the cusp of becoming a level forty Spirit Ancestor.

As night fell, the Soto Fighting Arena, located in the heart of Soto City, became a beacon of light and excitement. It was the last day of the month and a weekend, making it the most popular leisure spot in the city. An endless stream of spectators flowed in from every direction, eager to watch the matches, place small bets, and cheer for the Spirit Masters they supported. From time to time, lavish carriages, protected by personal guards, would use the VIP entrance, carrying nobles and members of powerful families who had come to enjoy the high-level fights in the central arena.

Amidst the bustling crowd, the group from Shrek Academy, including Huo Feng, made their way into the Soto Fighting Arena for one last night of battle.
