As the sun dipped below the rooftops of Konoha, casting golden light across the winding streets of Lantern District, Mikoto Uchiha came to a cheerful stop in front of a gaudy wooden sign shaped like a cartoon slime face. The exaggerated grin carved into the sign looked far too proud of itself.
"Everyone, let's try eating here! It's called The Slimy Smile!" she declared with genuine excitement.
Raven Kamazaki froze. Her violet eyes narrowed as an involuntary chill crept down her spine. Something about this place—the pastel color scheme, the faint smell of misused broth—it all set off quiet alarms in her head.
Why does this place feel like the archenemy of all food? The very air tastes… suspicious.
Naruto Uzumaki stared up at the sign, his face contorted in visible disgust.
"Big Sister Mikoto, are you serious? You actually want to eat at a place called The Slimy Smile?" he asked with a whimper.
"Of course!" Mikoto beamed, hands resting on her hips. "What's wrong with a place like that?"
Naruto looked to Raven in desperation. "Say something!"
Raven straightened up, crossing her arms with a solemn nod. "Mikoto, we can't—no, we mustn't—eat at a place like this!"
"And why not?" Mikoto tilted her head innocently.
Raven moved her eyes towards Naruto. "You tell her."
"Because… uh… because of the name! That's right, the name!" Naruto shouted, pointing at the horrifying sign as if it were cursed.
Mikoto giggled. "Oh, nonsense. It'll be fine! Come on!"
Before either child could escape, Mikoto reached down and seized both Raven and Naruto by the collars of their tiny shirts. With a strength that defied logic, she hoisted the flailing three-year-olds into the air and carried them toward's the entrance like sacks of potatoes.
"We don't wanna! We don't wanna eat at a restaurant named that!" they screamed in unison, kicking the air.
"You'll survive. It'll be fun!" Mikoto replied sweetly.
Behind them, Ino Yamanaka and Sasuke Uchiha shared a look.
"What are they even complaining about?" Ino asked, grabbing a braid off her shoulder.
"At this point," Sasuke muttered, "I'm not really sure anymore."
Inside, the walls were painted with smiling slimes wielding chopsticks. The air was warm, the lighting soft, and everything smelled faintly of mischief and miso broth. Mikoto gently deposited her squirming passengers into their chairs at the long wooden table.
"We've entered the lion's den, Naruto," Raven whispered across the table. "Prepare yourself."
Naruto nodded gravely. "Raven, it's been nice knowing you."
Mikoto seated herself between Sasuke and Ino, a serene smile on her face as she looked at the dramatizing duo across from her.
"What are you two talking about?" she asked.
"This place makes blasphemous food!" Raven declared, pointing an accusing finger at the decor.
"That's right!" Naruto shouted, pounding his fist on the table. "This place makes—Udon noodles!"
Bum bum BUM!
Naruto blinked. "That bum bum bum sound effect was excellent."
"I know, right?" Raven said approvingly. "It adds drama to your culinary review."
"Udon noodles?" Mikoto asked, puzzled. "What are those?"
Both children immediately collapsed forward, clutching their heads in disbelief and pressing their faces into the table.
"You don't know what Udon noodles are?" Raven said, lifting her head slowly. "They're the imitation—the mockery—of true ramen!"
"Exactly!" Naruto added. "Udon noodles are the enemy of all ramen lovers!"
"And pizza lovers, too!" Raven piled on.
"Ditto—well, except I'm only a ramen lover," Naruto admitted.
"You'll discover the glory of pizza one day, Naruto."
"Maybe… as long as it's not Udon."
Mikoto burst into laughter, wiping the corner of her eye with her sleeve. "Oh man, I'm having such a good day today."
"I'm not anymore," Naruto muttered darkly.
"Yet to be determined," Raven added.
A young waitress approached, her bright blue hair pulled back into a perfect bun. She held a notepad and wore a cheerful expression that seemed immune to the room's mood.
"Welcome to The Slimy Smile, the number-one Udon restaurant in Konoha!"
"You're the only Udon restaurant in the entire Elemental Nations," Raven said flatly.
"Still, that doesn't stop us from creating a niche market!" the waitress replied with unshaken pride. "Udon noodles are the new ramen!"
Both Raven and Naruto stared at her as if she had just committed treason. Their matching expressions held silent fury.
"Do you have anything besides Udon noodles?" Raven asked slowly.
"Actually… yes!" the waitress said, her smile widening.
The tension lifted like a spring-loaded trap releasing. The children leaned forward with wide, desperate eyes.
"What else do you have?" Raven asked.
"Here at The Slimy Smile, we've developed something that bridges the gap between ramen and pizza—a brand-new creation!" the waitress said dramatically.
"What is it?!" they both shouted in unison.
"Spaghetti."
Silence blanketed the table. Raven exhaled.
"Naruto… it's not Udon noodles."
Naruto's expression softened. "Very well then, waitress lady. We, the duo of pizza and ramen lovers—well, with Raven as the pizza lover—"
"Yet to be determined."
"—whatever, whatever—we will take the spaghetti!"
Mikoto laughed so hard she nearly doubled over. Ino giggled behind her hand. Sasuke quietly lowered his head, his voice tiered "Everyone around me has lost their minds."
