Chapter 159 - Shadows at the Ruins

Mukul sat in the war room, the dim light reflecting off the screens displaying maps, satellite feeds, and live communications. Aditya's message had arrived hours ago, yet its weight pressed heavily on him. He leaned back, rubbing his temples, then exhaled slowly.

"They claim to be my brothers," he murmured aloud, voice tight. "But Aditya warns it could be a trap… Savita is behind this."

Anaya, standing beside him, crossed her arms, eyes sharp. "We knew this was coming, Mukul. Savita wouldn't sit idle while you pieced together the family. But we can't ignore the possibility these men are genuine—blood of Avni and you."

Aria, seated quietly, studied the monitors. "The monastery ruins in Varanasi. The surveillance shows movement. Shadows flitting along the perimeter. Savita is already there."

Mukul nodded, his fingers tapping the table with measured precision. "Then we prepare. Anaya, Aria, I want you to coordinate the backup. Valen and Ryker have the letters—evidence of their mother's past—but we cannot let Savita's operatives intercept them. Everyone else, standby. No mistakes."

Across India, the monastery ruins were alive with tension. Ryker and Valen had begun examining the hidden compartment when Anika's sharp gaze caught movement near the eastern wall. "They're coming," she whispered to Sasha.

Before they could react further, shadows surged forward—Savita's elite operatives, silent, masked, and armed. They spread, surrounding the siblings and cutting off potential escape routes. Valen instinctively pulled Ryker behind a fallen pillar.

"This is exactly why Mukul warned us," Ryker muttered, scanning the periphery. "She knows we're here."

Anika's hands moved quickly over the lockpicks and gadgets she carried. "Then we don't wait. We force them to reveal their numbers."

Sasha nodded, deploying a small smoke device from her sleeve. The cloud filled the courtyard, blurring the operatives' vision. "Move!" she hissed.

Valen and Ryker maneuvered behind the rubble, scanning for weak points in the ambush. Every move was calculated, their training kicking in instinctively. But the sheer number of operatives made escape impossible without casualties.

Meanwhile, back in Mukul's command center, the warning from Aditya had triggered immediate action. "Deploy drones," Mukul instructed, his voice calm but commanding. "Monitor the ruins and provide real-time support. No one touches them."

Anaya's fingers flew over her tablet, linking the drones' feeds to Valen and Ryker's location. "They'll see the shadows closing in," she said. "Guide them through the chaos, warn them before Savita's team can strike."

Aria's voice cut in: "Mukul, they'll need more than guidance. I can create a diversion, draw some of the operatives away, give them an opening to move toward the perimeter."

Mukul's gaze hardened. "Do it. But make it precise. We can't risk exposing too much. Savita is calculating. Every move counts."

At the ruins, Valen whispered to Ryker, "Drones overhead—they're watching us." Ryker's jaw tightened. "Then we use it. Let's make her regret underestimating us."

Smoke and shadows twisted in the courtyard. Anika and Sasha coordinated silently, covering every flank. A sudden burst of controlled energy from Aria's device sent several operatives sprawling. Valen seized the moment, moving swiftly toward the hidden path the drones had highlighted. Ryker followed, letters secured, their path guided remotely by Mukul, Anaya, and Aria.

As they slipped through a side exit, Anika whispered, "We survived the first strike, but she'll be back."

Sasha nodded grimly. "And next time, it won't be just shadows we face."

Back at the command center, Mukul exhaled slowly, watching the live feed confirm their escape. "This is only the beginning," he muttered. "Savita has revealed her hand… now it's our move."

The first ambush had failed—but the war for family, truth, and survival had only just begun.
