Chapter 154 - Fractures and Truths

The safehouse air felt charged, thick with unspoken tension. Valen had laid out his findings—old hospital records, a burned letter, a faint trail that pointed to Meera Ahir, their mother, and the same place where Mukul was said to have lived twenty-two years ago. His voice was sharp with urgency.

"This is real, Ryker. It's not just another lead—it's her. We can't waste time."

Ryker slammed his hand on the table, the echo rattling the room. "Or it's bait. A trap designed to draw us out! Don't you see? Someone wants us chasing ghosts while they strike at our foundation."

Valen's eyes narrowed, his jaw tight. "You always think with suspicion. Always doubt, always second-guess. Maybe that's why we lost so much time already."

Ryker stepped forward, his tone cutting. "And maybe your obsession blinds you. You think you've found her, but what if this destroys us all?"

The clash of voices rose like thunder, threatening to tear apart the fragile bond they had just rebuilt.

Anika and Sasha exchanged a glance—then stepped forward before the argument could spiral further.

"Enough," Anika said firmly, her calm presence slicing through the storm. She turned to Valen, her voice softer. "You chase this lead because you're afraid of losing her again. But fear makes you reckless."

Valen froze, her words hitting deeper than he expected. His silence revealed the truth she had struck.

Sasha's gaze fell on Ryker, sharp yet compassionate. "And you… hide behind strategy because you're afraid of hope. If you expect betrayal in every shadow, then you'll never see the light when it's real."

For once, Ryker had no counter. The tension in his shoulders slackened, and he sank into the chair, eyes distant.

The room quieted, leaving space for honesty.

Valen exhaled shakily, running a hand through his hair. His voice was low, raw. "When I was alone… in the digital void, building Valen Dusk… I kept telling myself that if I stayed alive, one day I'd find her. Find all of them. It's the only thing that kept me from disappearing into the code."

Anika's expression softened. She reached out, covering his hand with hers. "You're not alone anymore. And you don't have to carry that obsession by yourself."

Across the table, Ryker's eyes glistened with something rare—pain. "You think I don't want to believe? Every night I remember the fire, the chaos, the moment everything shattered. I buried hope because hope… hurt too much."

Sasha leaned closer, her voice steady but tender. "Then let us share the hurt. If you carry it alone, it will crush you. But if you let us in, Ryker… you'll find it doesn't weigh the same."

For the first time, the silence wasn't heavy—it was healing. The brothers exchanged a long look, and though words weren't spoken, something shifted. The fight had cracked their walls wide enough for truth to bleed through.

Valen gave a small nod. "Maybe… we chase this lead carefully. Together."

Ryker breathed deeply, then managed a faint smile. "Together."

The sisters' presence lingered, warm and grounding. Anika and Sasha hadn't just resolved a quarrel; they had unearthed the first real truths—the brothers' fears, their pain, and their fragile hope for family.

Outside, the city lights glimmered like stars, as if bearing witness to a promise: this journey would not be walked alone.
