Grafton Manor, somewhere along a quiet corridor.

Lucien stood in the center of the hallway, facing a suit of silver-white medieval knight armor. The plates had been polished to a mirror shine, catching the light in cold, clean flashes.

He held his wand loosely, tapping it now and then against the joints, inscribing fine, dense magical runes. Each rune glowed softly the instant it was written, then sank into the metal as if the armor itself had absorbed it.

Aunt Penelope watched from the side with open interest. She couldn't see the flow of magic, but watching her nephew work with such focused attention was pleasant enough on its own.

"From the outside it really does look like something from centuries ago," she said, curiosity in her voice. "Do they keep antiques like this at your school?"

Lucien kept adjusting the shoulder assembly while he answered. "Hogwarts has quite a few old suits of armor. They're both school property and guards. If intruders show up, they attack."

"Oh?" Penelope raised an eyebrow. "Can they tell the difference between allies and enemies? Do they even have senses?"

"They use magic to identify people," Lucien said. "As for senses… I once saw one armor smash its companion to pieces with a morning star because the other one was singing badly. It did put the pieces back together afterward, though."

Penelope let out a soft laugh. The wizarding world really was something else— even the armor was dramatic.

She watched as Lucien reached into his pocket and drew out a small, crystal-clear red ruby. The gem was no larger than a thumbnail, its color vivid and pure, like a single drop of blood frozen in time.

He pressed it against the center of the armor's chest. The silver-white metal reacted at once, sinking inward to form a perfect recess for the stone. The edges flowed like quicksilver, spreading, reshaping, then hardening again, sealing the ruby into place with seamless precision.

Penelope breathed out in quiet wonder. "That's actually magic."

Lucien gave the chest plate a light pat.

A faint red glow flickered inside the dark eye slits of the helmet, as if something had looked out from within. Then it vanished, and the armor stood still once more.

He stepped back and studied the gleaming silver figure, satisfied.

With the simplified Philosopher's Stone serving as a power source, this alchemical construct could support far more complex additions. Its functions would be more varied, and its combat capability had jumped several levels.

Having money—or in this case, energy—really did let you do whatever you wanted.

He circled the armor slowly, considering the paint job. He had half a mind to give it the classic red-and-gold scheme with a glowing reactor shape on the chest. But that would be pushing things too far ahead. The original comic wouldn't even exist for decades yet.

Lucien glanced at the system panel floating in his mind. The Jade Record completion progress bar hadn't moved at all.

Completing the Jade Record required using potions and alchemy to actually advance wizarding civilization. It wasn't enough to research and create things. He had to spread them—get them into people's hands and daily lives.

Selling the finished products worked. So did publishing papers or compiling the knowledge into books that wizards would actually read and use. Improved versions of existing potions and alchemical items counted too, provided the improvements met the system's standards.

The upgraded Wolfsbane Potion he had finished earlier definitely qualified.

Before he tried selling it, though, he needed permission from the original inventor, Damocles Belby. Public potions could be brewed and tweaked privately without issue, but putting an improved version on the market required talking to the person who had created the base formula first.

Lucien didn't have a direct way to reach Damocles. He did know someone who almost certainly did—the youngest Potions Master alive.

Come to think of it, he still hadn't added Snape as a contact on Instant Language. He didn't even know if the man had bought a copy yet.

He should pay a visit in the next few days.
