Chapter 301 - Chapter 301

The Mark VI thrusters roared with a desperate, uneven cadence as Tony fought to maintain altitude above the churning river. Every burst of repulsor fire cost him a piece of his soul, and his ribs protested the sudden, violent shifts in gravity with a dull, sickening ache.

[WARNING: ARMOR INTEGRITY AT 64%]

[WARNING: ARC REACTOR OUTPUT FLUCTUATING]

He ignored the flashing warnings. The HUD flickered, casting a sickly red light across his vision, while the HUD itself struggled to compensate for the rapid, erratic movement of the suit.

Great. Just great. First the billionaire playboy gets tossed into the Hudson, and now the life support is throwing a tantrum.

He needed a miracle, or at least a decent backup generator. Clever maneuvers were gone, and his energy reserves were dropping faster than his stock price during a bad quarter. He was just a man in a metal coffin, fighting a ghost who wouldn't stay buried.

A sudden, heavy displacement in the air behind him made the sensors spike.

It wasn't a drone. The sound hit him before the visual did: a deep, resonant thrum, less an engine than a tectonic shift. The water below him didn't just ripple; it groaned, bulging upward in a massive, dark swell as something enormous moved through the depths toward the surface.

[WARNING: UNIDENTIFIED LARGE-SCALE ENERGY SIGNATURE DETECTED]

The HUD scrambled, attempting to categorize the signature, but the data streams dissolved into static. It was too big to be a drone, too dense to be a bird. Nothing else he'd encountered tonight moved that fast.

Fantastic. Because fighting a Russian megalomaniac wasn't enough, the river is now spawning kaiju. The universe really has a twisted sense of humor.

The shape broke the surface.

It erupted from the water. A massive, armored silhouette rose from the dark water, cutting through the spray like a mountain through silk. This wasn't a machine of sleek, polished lines, and it wasn't organic.

Tony stared, his engineer's mind instantly dissecting the nightmare. It was a Tyrannosaurus, or at least the heavy, mechanical interpretation of one. Every inch of its frame was composed of dense, interlocking plating that looked like it had been machined from a single, indestructible slab of dark alloy. It had no soft tissue and no visible muscle.

The jaw was a hydraulic-thick industrial vise, built with enough torque to crush a skyscraper's foundation. Instead of eyes, it had glowing, recessed sensor arrays that tracked his movement with terrifying precision. Its limbs were thick, piston-driven pillars of reinforced steel. Its arms weren't hands, but specialized weapon mounts: one a heavy, barrel-like cannon, the other a multi-jointed articulation for heavy-duty striking.

It was a masterpiece of pure, unadulterated destruction. Its design had no elegance, no aesthetic flourish tacked on for show. It was a tool, built with a single, terrifying purpose: to smash through anything in its path.

"The signature matches the unclassified energy spike detected near the Tower earlier, sir."

Tony grunted as he adjusted his flight stabilizers, his eyes tracking the mechanical dinosaur.

"Finally. I was starting to think your sensors were just having a bad day, JARVIS."

"The data is quite conclusive, sir. The energy density is consistent with the previous anomaly."

"Wonderful. A matching set. Because one nightmare wasn't enough for a Tuesday."

"I believe 'unprecedented' might be a more accurate descriptor, sir."

Tony didn't have the breath for a retort. The sheer scale of the machine looming in the spray made his chest tighten.

The trap closed with brutal efficiency.

Vanko didn't even look at him. He leaned into his controls, his suit banking toward the river to cut off the easiest flight path. The MetalTyrannomon pivoted its hulking, piston-driven torso in the same instant. It occupied the space Tony needed for a wide banking turn.

It was a pincer movement. The two threats operated with a synchronized, predatory logic that required no verbal command. One forced the engagement, while the other dictated the exit. The geometry of the kill formed half a second before the metal jaws snapped shut.

He was out of altitude and out of power. He was alone.

The MetalTyrannomon swung its tail. It was a towering, segmented pillar of heavy alloy that caught Tony mid-turn. The impact was a sickening, heavy thud that vibrated through his entire skeleton.

[WARNING: CRITICAL IMPACT DETECTED]

[WARNING: LEFT ARM ACTUATORS OFFLINE]

He spiraled, the world spinning into a nauseating blur of gray water and black sky. Repulsors fired to arrest the descent, but the energy drain was massive.

"You lose, Tony Stark!"

Vanko's voice drifted up through the wind, cold and distorted.

A lash of violet energy cracked through the air. The electrified whip caught Tony's right leg, the surge of electricity overriding his suit's internal dampeners. His muscles locked up for a paralyzing second, the pain a white-hot spike that bypassed the armor's shock absorption.

I can't out-think this. I can't out-run this.

The math was simple and devastating. He was burning through his remaining reserves just to stay upright. Every dodge cost him more energy than he could possibly recover.

He banked hard, the Mark VI screaming in protest as it pushed against the weight of the atmospheric drag. In a storm of metal and lightning, he was just a target.

This wouldn't happen today, and not like this.

He grit his teeth, forcing the thrusters to burn even as the HUD flashed a crimson warning of imminent shutdown. Staying in the air wasn't optional. If he hit the water now, he was finished.

The sudden, violent collision of light and motion tore the darkness of the river apart.

High above the spray, two streaks of divine radiance slammed into the mechanical beast. One was a shimmering, pearlescent white, the other a shadow-laced violet. Angewomon and LadyDevimon descended like falling stars, their wings cutting through the smog with a grace that defied the chaotic battlefield. The impact against MetalTyrannomon's reinforced plating sounded like a thunderclap, forcing the colossal cyborg to stagger back into the churning water.

Tony braced for the next blow, but the weight of the attack didn't hit him. Instead, the battlefield erupted in a symphony of elemental fury.

A wall of primal, roaring flames surged from the riverbank, and Ethan arrived amidst the heat as BurningGreymon. The dragon-warrior landed with a heavy, metallic thud that sent a shockwave across the surface, his golden armor glowing with the intensity of a miniature sun.

Before the smoke could clear, a dark, jagged energy tore through the center of the fray. Jessica plummeted from the sky, riding the fierce, unyielding momentum of Beelzemon. The Demon Lord's black leather jacket billowed like a storm cloud as his twin shotguns flared with dark power, the twin blasts carving through the spray to keep the mechanical dinosaur at bay.

"Is that all you've got?"

Impmon's voice echoed from Jessica's Digivice, even as the purple demon materialized beside her to add a chaotic barrage of fire.

Crushing, solitary pressure vanished, replaced by a coordinated, overwhelming surge of presence. Gwen arrived next as Taomon, weaving through the chaos and casting glowing talismans that hung in the air like static electricity, a shimmering barrier of light cutting through the darkness.

"Watch your flank, Tony!"

Spider-Man swung in from the low skyline, a streak of red and blue against the dark. He zipped through the spray, his web-lines catching on a nearby construction crane to swing him directly into the combat zone.

The transition was visceral. One moment, Tony was alone, drowning in a calculation of certain death. The next, a whirlwind of legends and allies surrounded him. The empty sky around him filled with allies. He was part of a fight.

"JARVIS, did you see that?"

"The sudden influx of high-energy signatures is quite remarkable, sir."

"Yeah. It's about time the cavalry showed up."

The MetalTyrannomon let out a mechanical roar, its sensor arrays flashing a frantic, angry red. It faced a storm now.
