Chapter 146 - Chapter 146: Grinding and Whaling Gabriel

"Lin, don't overthink it."

Vignette felt a bit panicked inside but tried to explain calmly.

It was just like protesting too much.

"Aiya."

Seeing Vignette anxiously explaining in a fluster, Satania immediately smiled nonchalantly and said:

"Vignette, no need to be nervous. Lin isn't an ordinary human."

"Eh?!"

Vignette was momentarily stunned.

She subconsciously sized up Lin.

Though his appearance and aura far surpassed ordinary humans, she didn't sense anything else unusual about him.

Meanwhile, upon hearing Satania's words, Gabriel's eyes flickered slightly. She glanced around, her heart stirring.

She noticed something off.

The passersby seemed to suddenly ignore them completely, neither seeing nor hearing them.

Completely different from before.

Her gaze shifted to Lin, thoughtfully sizing him up.

The laziness on her face faded slightly.

At that moment, Satania smiled and continued:

"The rules just say we can't reveal our identities in front of ordinary humans. Lin isn't ordinary."

"So it's not breaking the rules."

Hearing this, Lin looked at her, a flash of surprise in his eyes.

Those weren't words she would typically say.

"Even if that's true..."

Vignette frowned slightly, looking at Lin suspiciously. "Lin, you're really not an ordinary human?"

She was half-believing, half-doubting now.

"Mm."

Lin smiled at her.

Vignette hesitated, then blushed slightly. "Sorry, could you prove it?"

"Vignette."

Gabriel called out to her at that moment.

"What's wrong?"

Vignette looked at Gabriel.

Gabriel, hands in her pockets with a lazy expression, said: "Look around."

Vignette and Satania both looked around at her words. Seeing the state of the surrounding passersby, they froze.

Satania instantly understood the reason.

It was obviously Lin's doing.

Vignette paused, then looked toward Lin: "Did you do this?"

Lin smiled faintly. "Yes, me."

"..."

Lin admitted it. Vignette looked around again, now having no choice but to believe he wasn't ordinary.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

Regaining her composure, she thought of her earlier protesting-too-much explanations, her pretty face flushing slightly.

A hint of embarrassment flashed in her eyes.

Lin smiled and said: "How about this? There's a beverage shop ahead. Let's sit down and chat?"

"I'll treat."

"..."

Hearing Lin say he'd treat, Gabriel's eyes flickered slightly.

She felt tempted inside.

After all, free stuff—who could pass that up?

Vignette felt a bit awkward and said: "Chatting is fine, but no need for you to treat."

They'd only just met, after all.

Lin smiled faintly. "No problem. We're all Satania's friends. Now that we've met, we're friends too."

"Right, Satania?"

He looked toward Satania as he spoke.

"Ah... yeah."

Satania paused at his words, then nodded.

She hadn't even realized she'd already defaulted to considering Vignette and Gabriel as her friends.

"This..."

Vignette was still hesitating.

Gabriel smiled and said: "Vignette, since he's kindly inviting us, just accept."

"This Lin looks tall, handsome, and generous. Refusing would seem like looking down on him."

"Handsome guy, right?"

She winked at Lin as she said it.

Lin's gaze flickered as he glanced at her, then smiled at the hesitant Vignette. "She's right."

"O-Okay then, thank you."

Vignette hesitated a bit longer before finally agreeing.

She thanked Lin, still feeling awkward.

Lin dispersed 99% of the concealment power, leaving just a trace.

The effect was just right.

They would be noticed, but as long as they didn't cause any obvious commotion, the ordinary people around would subconsciously ignore the four of them.

Similar to Megumi Katō's situation.

Two minutes later, the four arrived at a nearby beverage shop.

They found a four-person booth and sat down.

Vignette and Gabriel on one side.

Lin and Satania on the other.

Each ordered a drink.

Lin also ordered some food.

Egg tarts, puffs, fruit salad.

After taking a sip of his drink, Lin looked at Vignette and Gabriel.

"You've probably adapted to life in the Human Realm by now, right?"

Vignette smiled and said: "Mm, though it's a bit different, the Human Realm is actually pretty similar to the Demon Realm."

"Like TV shows and such."

"Vignette's right."

Satania nodded in agreement.

Gabriel didn't say a word.

She just enjoyed the free food and drink.

After all, it was already ordered. If the others didn't eat much, to avoid waste, she had to step up.

"I see."

Lin nodded as if realizing something, then asked: "Have you found anything interesting in the Human Realm?"

"Not yet for now."

Vignette shook her head slightly.

Lin looked toward Satania.

"What about you, Satania?"

"Me..."

Seeing Lin ask her, Satania set down her drink, thought for a moment, and answered: "Probably singing."

Lin smiled upon hearing this. "Nice hobby. Next time we have free time, we can go karaoke together."

"Sure!"

Satania's eyes lit up.

She couldn't help but show an expectant smile.

Lin then looked toward Gabriel.

Vignette and Satania also looked at the silent Gabriel.

"Uh..."

Stared at by the three, Gabriel paused mid-sip, swallowed, and said:

"I like playing games."

She had no intention of hiding it.

Vignette already knew.

"Games..."

Lin raised an eyebrow with a smile. "What type?"

Gabriel: "MMO."

Lin: "I've been playing an MMO lately called World Tree. Do you know it?"

"World Tree?!"

Gabriel's eyes lit up instantly.

She set down her drink, stopped eating, curiosity in her eyes as she asked Lin:

"You play World Tree too? What's your level now?"

Seeing Gabriel's reaction, Vignette smiled helplessly. Mention games, and she was full of energy.

Satania blinked.

She hadn't expected Gabriel to like games, and Lin played too.

She'd search for it later.

World Tree, right.

Lin smiled. "Not high level, just 25. Haven't had much time to play lately."

"Level 25..."

Gabriel's eyes flickered. "That's pretty high actually. The max is only 35."

"I'm only 33 myself."

"By the way, how's your skill?"

World Tree had a special combat system where skill mattered; ceiling and floor varied greatly.

Practice makes perfect.

In the open world and dungeons, high skill could make up for gear and level gaps.

World Tree had microtransactions.

Mostly cosmetics with minor stat boosts.

Or buy in-game currency for potions.

HP/MP pots, temp buffs.

Non-payers could grind for them.

To look better and stronger, she'd spent quite a bit.

Both grinder and spender.
