Violet crouched down, wrapping her arms tightly around her legs. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't erase the sight of Crowmale from her mind. The abandoned town, the remains scattered throughout it, and the deep claw marks were things she knew she would remember for a long time.
What could have caused something like that?
Could it have been vampires? They were the only creatures she knew capable of leaving such terror behind.
"Your Highness, w-what happened in that town?" she asked, looking up at Henry.
"I cannot tell you," Henry replied.
He had already formed his own conclusion. The circle of salt in the middle of the town had been enough to raise his suspicion. After everything he had learned from Lady Arta, he was almost certain witches were responsible for what had happened in Crowmale.
But if that was true, how long had they been doing this?
Had Crowmale been the only town they had attacked? Or had there been others?
The thought troubled him.
