Later that evening, Megan dragged her feet through the castle corridors, exhaustion weighing heavy on her. Her stomach growled in protest.
A blur flashed past her.
She froze, heart racing, eyes darting around—but the corridor was empty.
"It's just my imagination," she whispered.
Then the blur passed again.
Before she could react, a figure stood before her, red eyes burning into brown.
"You have duties to fulfil, mutt."
It wasate when the Crown Prince and the knight returned to the castle. Benjamin departed with a respectful bow, his footsteps fading into the distance.
Left alone, Leonard moved swiftly through the corridors, his long strides sharp and purposely. He stopped before a dusty stretch of wall and reached into his coat pocket, gripping a hidden torch holder. With a firm pull, stone rumbled and shifted, sinking inward until a concealed staircase revealed itself.
Leonard descended.
