Chapter 4 - The Hollow Heart III

Inside the gun were seventeen bullets but Nicolas only needed a single one. His heart had turned tranquille along with his expression. All the preparations were finished.

The footprints of blood that he left behind had grown fainter and fainter before disappearing completely. He walked two kilometers before arrivihe ng at the square where he sat on a bench and stared at the horizon.

What's the point of everything... Why should I get up in the morning... Go to school... Laugh with friends... If you aren't here with me. Why did you have to die... I feel so...empty without you.

At that moment, Nicolas looked up at the now dark sky. Countless clouds had gathered despite the dry weather. The leaves were fluttering in the soft wind as the weather turned cold.

His eyes - even colder and full of sorrow - let out a single tear before he wiped it as if it were nothing.

Without waiting any longer, he approached a group of women chatting on a nearby bench. Apparently, they had brought their children to play but Nicolas had other plans.

"Leave. Right now."

He said coldly as he slightly lifted his shirt to show them the gun in his pocket. His bloodied hands gave his almost commanding demand a threatening air.

The parents, panicking, ran and grabbed their children while shouting for help. Now only a few people remained at the square, looking confused at Nicolas due to all the commotion.

He then walked to the center and took out his gun, aiming it at the left side of his head. The few onlookers momentarily froze before taking out their phones and calling the police.

Nicolas slowly closed his eyes as he tried to press the trigger but to his surprise, suddenly, everything grew abnormally quiet. He couldn't hear even his own breathing. He abruptly opened his eyes and touched his left ear with his free hand and felt something liquid at his fingers.

As he looked at his palm, he saw it was covered in blood. Without having even a split second to process what was going on, he felt something on his lips. Sensing something amiss. He dropped the gun on the ground and touched them. It was blood from his nose now.

Following that, something filled his mouth and he opened it reflexively. Blood dripped to the ground. Feeling dizzy, he knelt down and supported himself with both knees and arms. At that moment everything became black. As if someone had switched off the lights without a warning.

Now, his consciousness had become faint. He felt extremely sluggish with his actions, as if he was moving in a pool of mud. At the last moment a single sentence passed through his mind.

What the... f...

And then he lost consciousness.
