Chapter 21 - FTG Chapter 21: The Guild Is Founded

Over the past three centuries, humanity multiplied rapidly, replacing the Dragons as the world's leading actors.

Consequently, the vast magic power once scattered through nature gradually migrated into human bodies.

According to the Super Archive's measurements and calculations, after the Dragons were largely exterminated, ambient magic power density began rising year after year.

Exactly when it will peak is unknown, but it certainly won't be for at least another two centuries.

In other words, the world is entering an age overflowing with magic!

Thanks to this abundance, more humans will awaken as Wizards, and ordinary beasts will evolve into magical creatures.

Once the villagers learned the real reason behind the children's Magical Evolution, their worries vanished. They apologized to Weston for ever doubting him and cheerfully pledged absolute trust from now on.

Seizing the moment, Weston announced his plan to requisition the large wooden house next to the schoolhouse as the base for the Magic Guild "Fairy Tail."

He'd actually proposed the idea back when Tenrou Village was first founded.

At the time, however, so few villagers could use magic that the plan was shelved—though the building had been kept empty just in case.

Now its hour had come.

The villagers unanimously approved the creation of a Magic Guild without a single dissenting vote.

Soon… the Fairy Tail guild flag fluttered high above the wooden house.

Inside, Weston stood on a raised platform, delivering an impassioned speech to the fifty-odd children who had only recently awakened their magic.

"From this day forward, this is the new Magic Guild—Fairy Tail!"

"I'm the guild master, and Mavis is the vice-master."

"All of you who've awakened magic are now guild members."

"Whenever folks in the village run into trouble, they'll post requests here, and you, having trained in magic, will use your power to help them."

"That's the very purpose of a Magic Guild!"

The village kids: "..."

"Hey, hey… couldn't you at least pretend to care?"

"Give us some reaction here!"

Weston sighed in defeat and played his trump card: "Starting tomorrow, we're opening a Snack Bar and a Drinks Bar inside."

"Yay!!!" × N

Thunderous cheers shook the building.

As expected, no grade-schooler can resist a snack shack by the school gate… Half a day later.

The kids sat in a circle, chattering and laughing while sharing the treats and sodas they'd bought with pocket money.

Weston slumped over a corner table, watching their beaming faces and sighing repeatedly. "These brats don't care one bit about the guild…"

"Oh, come on, stop moping already."

The speaker was Zera, sharing dried meat strips with Mavis from the snack counter.

"Of course I'm upset!"

Weston bolted upright, fists clenched, indignation written all over his face. "I busted my butt building this guild, and it's less popular than a snack shop! Can you even imagine how that stings?"

"Sorry, not in the slightest."

Mavis sat on the long bench, tiny feet swinging in the air.

"Everyone's still just a kid; magic and guilds don't mean much to them yet. It's natural they'd shrug it off for now. Things will get better…"

"Don't sulk, here, have a bite!"

While gently comforting him, the girl popped a strip of dried meat into his mouth.

Weston chewed, energy flooding back. He sprang up and shouted, "It's decided!"

"Starting tomorrow, I'm opening the guild's Request Board so villagers with problems can come to us!"

Mavis hesitated at the news. "Isn't that a bit fast?"

"Everyone's magic just awakened; they're far from skilled. Even if requests come in, they might not complete them."

"No, no…"

Weston wagged an index finger. "Requests don't have to require magic."

Besides, the more you use magic, the faster you improve!"

Bright as ever, Mavis instantly grasped his point.

Only villagers could post requests, and Tenrou Island was small; there weren't many things the adults found troublesome.

Knowing the guild's limits, they'd keep tasks easy—mostly sweeping, organizing, or herb-picking chores.

In the process, the kids would build life skills and gradually master their magic—killing two birds with one stone.

"Looks like guild affairs will get pretty busy. Let me help!"

Mavis's eyes sparkled, a eager grin on her lips.

She'd been looking forward to Fairy Tail from the very start.

"Huh? But what about the schoolhouse…"

"Leave it to Zera."

Zera, quietly nibbling meat, froze.

"Eh? Me??"

Over the following period, Tenrou Village developed steadily just as Weston had planned.

The villagers launched the next phase of construction;

Weston, Mavis, and Zera led the children in lessons covering literacy, language, math, magic, fitness, and life skills through the schoolhouse guild.

One day, Weston contacted Elefseria again.

"I never imagined so much could happen at your end in just a month."

"Handling all this at your age—truly admirable."

After hearing Weston's recent trials, Elefseria offered heartfelt sympathy.

"Senior, are Magic Guilds in Guiltina just as full of conflicts?"

"On the whole, pretty much."

"Is there no way to fix it?"

Elefseria pondered, then replied, "If the Council possessed stronger means to manage these guilds effectively, things might improve."

"But that would only curb the problem, not solve its root."

"Setting aside personal ambition, guild conflicts boil down to territory and resources. A fair distribution system could change everything."

Weston fell silent.

A method to fairly allocate resources?

Even in the modern world, no such thing exists…
