Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Hidden Savior

The air was heavy with sandalwood. Yuexin stirred, her lashes trembling as soft beams of sunlight filtered through silk curtains embroidered with dragons and cranes. For a fleeting moment, she thought it was a dream—the betrayal, the blood, the chase.

But when she opened her eyes fully, she realized she was lying on a bed of brocade sheets, her wounds carefully bandaged. The chamber was vast, with golden pillars that seemed to touch the heavens and jade vases standing proudly in the corners. This was no ordinary palace.

Her breath caught. Where am I?

The door slid open with a measured sound. A man entered, his steps firm and unhurried. He was dressed in robes of midnight silk embroidered with the emblem of a soaring dragon. His long hair was bound with a golden clasp, and his eyes, sharp and commanding, seemed to pierce through her.

Yuexin's heart stopped. This was no warrior. No mere noble.

He carried the aura of one born to rule.

"You are awake," he said, his tone deep, calm, yet threaded with undeniable authority.

Yuexin lowered her gaze instinctively. Her lips trembled. "You… saved me."

The man studied her, his expression unreadable. "You were left to die in the forest. My men brought you here. You may rest without fear. None dare harm you in my palace."

His palace? Her chest tightened. The realization struck her like thunder.

She looked up again, truly seeing him for the first time—the dragon-embroidered robes, the golden clasp, the sovereign's bearing that radiated from every breath he took.

Her voice faltered. "Y-you're… the Emperor?"

The faintest curve touched his lips, not quite a smile, but a confirmation. "Long Renzhou, Emperor of Longyun. At your service."

Yuexin's blood ran cold. Of all places she could have awoken, fate had carried her straight into the hands of the most powerful ruler in the land.

But even as fear and uncertainty twisted within her, a strange calm settled in her chest. For the first time since her kingdom had fallen, she felt… safe.

Or was that merely another illusion?

The Emperor stepped closer, his gaze sweeping over her bandaged arm. "Your wounds are healing well. Where is your home? Who dares to hunt you with such vicious intent?"

Yuexin's heart lurched. She could not reveal her true identity—not yet. If the court of Longyun discovered she was the fallen princess of Huánglóng, she might be delivered straight back to the traitors who wanted her dead.

"I…" She forced her voice steady. "I am just a traveler, Your Majesty. Bandits ambushed me on the road. If not for you, I would not have survived."

Renzhou regarded her in silence. His silver-black eyes lingered on her face, as if weighing her words, as if he could see past her lie. Then, slowly, he nodded.

"Very well. You will remain here until your strength returns. The world outside these walls is not kind to the weak." His tone carried finality—an emperor's decree that could not be challenged.

Yuexin bowed her head, hiding the storm in her eyes. For now, I must remain hidden. I will endure… until the time comes to reclaim what was stolen.

The Emperor turned toward the door but paused, glancing back at her. "Rest, girl. Fate has a curious way of bringing people to me. Perhaps it has plans for you as well."

And with that, he left, leaving Yuexin with more questions than answers—her heart caught between fear and the strange warmth that lingered in his presence.
