Chapter 14 - Honey Butter Morning

As June finally reached the entry door of the canteen, a loud and chaotic myriad of sounds graced his ear. Sounds of children running around, people chattering about their daily lives, echoed through the air.

Taking a deep breath, he opens the two doors and walks inside the room. It seems like even though it's still barely six in the morning, a large group of people has already gathered in the dining halls.

The room was indeed quite spacious, enough to hold around 5 dozen Awakened eating in it. From what he could tell, there were around 32 tables scattered around the smooth stone floor of the room as well.

In front of him, there seems to be a small line forming at the food-serving area.

Rubbing his eyes, he walked over to the left of the building, where there was a sign for what meals were available for today's breakfast.

'Let's see... There's Charred Skeever Hide, Roasted Chimera Leg with honey butter, Rotclaw Stew with garlic bread, Basilisk Steak with peppercorn sauce and Sun-Scaled Lizard Roast with mustard sauce...'

He stood in front of the sign, looking at the menu while contemplating on what he should get.

"Alright then, a simple Roasted Chimera Leg would do."

June whispered to himself as he turned around and joined the line, waiting to order his food. After a few minutes of waiting, it was finally his turn to order.

"Excuse me, can I have the Roasted Chimera Leg with honey butter, please?"

"Alright, sir, where would you be sitting?"

June turned back, looking at the tables that were scattered across the dining hall.

"That empty table in the right corner."

"Alright then, anything else you might want to add, sir?"

"Do you have any Vodka Martini here, by chance, ma'am?"

The woman in front of him paused for a second before speaking again, gesturing towards the right side of the room.

"I... Think there should be some over at the drink bar, over there."

"Ah, alright then, thanks for your service, ma'am."

With that, he turned away and walked in the direction of where the employee had just pointed to.

The drink bar itself wasn't that particularly large, but it had a decent enough variety of drinks for people here to enjoy.

'Huh? There really is shaken Vodka martini here.'

June thought to himself, as he stared at the bottle with the label of 'Shaken Vodka Martini on it. Grabbing a glass from beneath the counter, he poured himself a drink before walking towards the table that he had just told the employee.

Sitting down, he looked to his side, out of the window. The location of this medical centre was quite close to the castle, where the 'King of swords' lived, so it got a pretty good view of the great lake that resides within Bastion.

Staring at the lake, he started to ponder yet again over what he's going to do next. After all, he can't make any more mistakes and get into a fight again, like the one with that Pandavar's enforcer.

Perhaps he should try a more informational based approach? After all, that sadistic writer did mention something about the smuggling of the drug 'Shard Dust', so investigating them might be the key here.

Though Smiley did say that there were recent activities happening on the Storm Sea. So, he should probably go there sooner rather than later.

"Excuse me, your food is here."

A voice besides him zapped June back into reality. It seems like they get food out here pretty fast, it seems, considering how it had only been around a few minutes since he had ordered it.

The skin of the roasted leg of the chimera was crispy appearance with a perfect golden-brown appearance. It also has a rich smell coming from it, with creamy mashed potatoes as a side dish. Seeing it would make anyone's stomach growl.

'They really went above and beyond, huh? I wonder, is it because of my status as an executive in the Black-Market? Or do they just serve good quality food like this normally?'

June thought, before taking a knife to cut the delectable roast in front of him. Taking a bite from the chimera's leg, June's pupil widened. The meat was more tender than he would've thought, with a salty and umami flavour to accompany it, and the skin was just as crispy as it looked.

'Honey butter really adds to the flavour...'

He then turned his attention to the mashed potatoes that rested alongside the roast. June himself wasn't a big fan of mashed potatoes per se, but considering how the chimera leg tasted, it did leave him wondering about the taste of the side dish as well.

The mashed potatoes... While not as flavourful as the roasted leg, was still quite delightful to taste. It was warm and had a creamy, fluffy texture, with a velvety, dairy-forward richness to it.

Finally, June washed everything down his throat with a sip from his glass of shaken Martini.

No wonder why he keeps on hearing good reviews about this medic centre cafeteria. The food wasn't exactly gourmet, but it was still scrumptious and delectable in its own right.

Letting out a long breath of satisfaction, he looked down at his plate before taking another bite from the meal. It was when the fork was an inch away from his mouth, that he suddenly heard a familiar and blithe voice coming from behind that caught his attention:

"Oh, June, is that you? What a coincidence!"

Turning around, he saw a tall and slender figure with pale skin; his hair was dark with a tint of navy blue. Though his hair was longer than the last time he'd met him, at the memorial site in NQSC. Now it rested comfortably on his shoulder, as a length of dark silk spilled across a vanity.

Looking at the man behind him, June let out a faint smile and greeted him.

"Ah, Blake, it's been a while. How are you?"

The man with dark-navy blue hair let out a chuckle before walking over to where June was sitting at.

"Good, I've been good. Oh, and by the way, would you mind if I also sit down here as well?"
