Chapter 72: The Gray Invitation and the God's Melancholy

Kasumigaoka Utaha stared at the glowing interface of her Diary, her mind churning.

The description of the "Strongest Sorcerer," Gojo Satoru, left her deeply unsettled. If he was truly as powerful as Renji suggested, why would he be hated by his own disciples? Why would he be blamed even after his death at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna?

Is he actually a villain? Utaha wondered, before quickly shaking her head. If he were truly evil, Renji wouldn't have called it a "good thing" for Yotsuya Miko to be taken under his wing. It seemed the inner world was far more nuanced than simple black and white—a realization that made the prospect of entering it both terrifying and alluring.

Over the past month, the girls holding the Diaries had begun to diverge. Kaguya Shinomiya was sprinting toward the extraordinary, determined to dominate the inner world. Others, like Umaru, had seen the "spoilers" of their lives and decided to simply "lie flat" and enjoy the show from the sidelines. Then there were the dreamers—Hoshino Ai, Tsukimi Eiko, and Shiina Mashiro—who only feared the inner world because its chaos might disrupt their paths to stardom or art.

As for Utaha, she was still wavering. In the "outer world," she was a genius, a beauty, and a rising star in the literary world. Her only regret was the "loser heroine" fate Renji had mocked in his early entries.

I can't stand it, she thought, her yandere tendencies beginning to flare. If I stop looking for him, no one else will. That man... he's probably in some dark corner right now, laughing at my frustration.

Gritting her teeth, she made a choice. "Commissions. I need points."

Tomorrow, she would find Mashiro and convince her to "lend" her the creative assistant known as Renji Miyauchi. She needed his brain to clear her first two commissions in record time.

The New Game: Voldemort's Debut

Five kilometers away, Renji Miyauchi suddenly felt a chill down his spine.

Through the "spy" information he gathered from Mashiro, he could sense the general emotional state of the Diary holders. Recently, Utaha's thoughts had become... intense.

"Is Kasumigaoka-senpai losing her mind?" Renji muttered. "She keeps whispering my name like a cursed mantra. Did I stimulate her too much with the Jujutsu World talk?"

He decided to shift his "persecution" target for a while. Hitori "Bocchi" Gotoh was a much safer bet. He knew about her impossible "15-Yen Band" commission. For a girl who could barely say hello, forming a supergroup was a Herculean task. He decided he would "guide" her through the Diary to help her complete it.

But more importantly, Renji had a new experiment to run.

He looked at his Diary, which now flickered between its original black and a new, mysterious gray. He hadn't revealed his true identity to anyone but Mashiro, and he intended to keep it that way. To the new batch of girls who had just received the Gray Diaries, he wouldn't be the "Mysterious Person."

He decided on a new alias: Voldemort.

Writing in the Gray Diary, he greeted the newcomers. He explained his status as a transmigrator and the nature of this "Mashup World," where Urban Legends, Jujutsu Sorcerers, and Youth Syndrome coexisted. He even teased the upcoming Shibuya Incident scheduled for October and mentioned the existence of aliens—a "special treat" he hadn't even shared with the original Black Diary group yet.

He soon received a system notification: writing in multiple diaries didn't grant extra rewards, but it increased the quality of the daily draw. His chance for a "Grand Prize" had jumped from 0.01% to 0.015%—a massive 50% increase in the eyes of the System.

"Now," Renji leaned back, "let's see which of the newcomers will be the first to speak 'Voldemort's' name."

The Goddess of Prefectural North High

"I have no interest in ordinary humans."

"If there are any aliens, time travelers, people from other worlds, or espers among you, feel free to come find me!"

The month of April was ending, and the echo of that famous declaration still hung over the classrooms of Koyoen Academy. The speaker, Haruhi Suzumiya, had already quit every club in the school, finding them all beneath her.

She was currently in a state of deep melancholy. Lately, she'd been having strange dreams of a different life—one where she attended a school called North High and wore a different uniform. In those dreams, life was chaotic, colorful, and anything but boring.

On this morning, Haruhi woke up just seconds before her alarm. As she sat up, she noticed something new on her nightstand: a Gray Diary.

There was no fear on her face, only a spark of pure, unadulterated interest. She flipped it open and her eyes widened.

"A transmigrator... from another world?"

She read the introductory entry from the man calling himself Voldemort. He spoke of a "Comprehensive Anime World" where the very beings she sought actually existed in the shadows.

If this was a prank, it was the most elaborate and interesting one she had ever encountered. If it was a confession from some boy, he certainly knew the way to her heart. But as she read the detailed descriptions of supernatural phenomena and the "hidden history" of Japan, a thrill she hadn't felt in years surged through her.

"Voldemort, is it?" Haruhi smiled, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "You better not be lying to me. Because if you are... I'll make sure your life becomes very, very interesting."
