The sky gradually brightened as the streets began to fill with people.
The morning light wasn't too harsh, cutting through the branches and driving away the night, leaving patches of silver light on the ground. The mist lingered in the air, shifting between thick and thin, like threads of silk.
Along with the street vendors' cries, Aunt He's voice from next door rang out again.
"Second daughter-in-law, aren't you up yet? Do I have to come and push you?"
Aunt He knocked on the door.
"It used to be that you three divided the work, but now that the third daughter-in-law is heavy with child, I decided that you and your eldest sister-in-law should do more. Your eldest sister-in-law is already busy in the kitchen. If you're unwilling, just let me know."
No need to go to the fields, no need to feed the chickens or pigs.
"There's only a little work at home, how could it tire you out!"
