When others expressed regret that Maeve Lane didn't continue her studies, her feelings were mixed. She wanted to know what happened, but was afraid to bring up her sad past.
Maeve Lane seemed quite calm: "It's pretty good now, just a different way of living."
"Hmm." Meredith lay back against the headrest and suddenly remembered her promise to Mrs. Roland, "By the way, Maeve, do you have a birthmark on you?"
Maeve paused, "Yes."
"Can I take a look?"
"What's there to see?" Maeve said, but still lifted the hem of her shirt, slightly turning her back.
Meredith immediately saw the small birthmark.
It really looked like a rose etched in, exquisite and beautiful.
"What's up?" Maeve lowered her shirt.
Meredith hesitated for a moment, not speaking.
Without confirming the details, it seemed rash to speak up recklessly, and a birthmark alone couldn't prove anything.
Perhaps she could tell Mrs. Roland first.
