"I was afraid the kidnappers would retaliate, so I bought a ticket to return home overnight. When the plane landed, I finally didn't feel as panicked."
Rosalyn Jennings shook her head with a bitter smile, "I've always felt that I let her down. If I hadn't urged her to slip away from the bodyguard and go to the beach with me, maybe those people wouldn't have been able to harm her."
"So, did this guilt also transfer to me?" Maeve Lane asked softly.
"At first, it was guilt, but later on, I truly loved you like a biological daughter," Rosalyn Jennings explained, fearing Maeve Lane would overthink, "When I got to the country, I immediately changed my name and all my contact details. Fortunately, the Jennings Family hadn't fallen on hard times back then, so I managed to clean everything up quickly."
"Later, I had someone investigate, but there was no trace of Rowan. I thought she had already... passed away."
