"She said if I came to find you, it would harm you." Keane carefully avoided letting his tears touch Maeve Lane's boots, "I'm so afraid, if you knew I was your son, you would become like Grandma."
He shed a few tears with each sentence, the tears slipping down his cheeks.
Maeve's heart ached, and she took out a tissue to wipe Keane's tears, "How could that be?"
"Knowing that you are my son makes me so happy."
Maeve's words left Keane momentarily speechless; he looked up, his eyes red, "Really?"
"Really."
"What Grandma says isn't always right, and you can't just run away from home because of it, that's very dangerous, you know?"
Maeve tried to speak slowly, articulating clearly, "Do you think leaving without saying anything was the right thing to do?"
Keane said, "No, it wasn't."
