Kellen had to harden his heart. Not to keep out compassion, empathy or kindness, but because he had a feeling that he was walking into a battlefield.
That was made clear when they arrived at the Tower and were not directed towards the Medical Bay. They were instead directed towards one of the conference rooms in the Guiding Division. A large open space that Taylor had quickly had to set up as a medical area.
Kellen wasn't sure of the reason for that right away, but when he got to that floor, it began to make sense. Why? Well, it was the fact that he could see several Espers lining the hallway. All of them were grim-faced, arms at their sides, their gazes catching Kellen and Hill's gaze before nodding and turning back.
Kellen, who was unable to feel the power levels in the air, wondered if their grim attitude was because of that. Or they had seen the condition that the Guides were in and it had upset them greatly.
Kellen felt his own face harden.
