"DXD: Multiverse Journey"Chapter 236: Yuzuru's Innocence—Caught in the Scheme

"Question: Where did Kaguya and Shuo sneak off to just now?"

Barely fifteen minutes had passed when Yuzuru, arms folded, caught sight of Kaguya clinging to Shuo's arm. A strange irritation prickled at her chest.

Kaguya flashed a triumphant grin.

"Yuzuru, this time victory is mine. Get ready to admit defeat!"

She shot Shuo a sly, lingering look—her gaze softening, affection written all over her face.

Yuzuru's reply was cool and clipped.

"Objection. Yuzuru will be the winner."

The tension lingered in the air. After a long, quiet moment, Yuzuru glanced at Shuo, then walked over and wrapped her arms around his.

"Request. Shuo, there's something I want to discuss."

He exchanged a knowing look with Kaguya, then let Yuzuru lead him down the shore.

She didn't say a word as they walked, her grip gentle but determined. Only when they reached the edge of the sea—where the sand was cool and damp—did Yuzuru finally stop.

She turned to him, face impassive, voice flat.

"Question: Did Kaguya do anything to you just now?"

Shuo scratched his chin, searching his memory.

"Uh… I don't think so?"

Besides a hug. And a kiss.

Nothing else… right?

Probably.

Yuzuru sighed, shaking her head.

"Disappointment. If Kaguya really tried to seduce you, you'd turn into a lovesick monkey. She'd have you wrapped around her finger in seconds."

Shuo blinked.

Is that really how you see me?

Sure, he liked Kaguya—but he wasn't that desperate.

Her words were odd, but there was something different in her tone—a hint of vulnerability.

Suddenly, Yuzuru let go of his arm and leaned in, her face inches from his. Her eyes locked onto his, searching, silent.

The world went quiet.

Seconds ticked by before Yuzuru broke the silence.

"Question: Shuo… do you like Kaguya?"

She'd seen it all—the way Kaguya clung to him, the little smiles, the hidden glances. As twins, Yuzuru knew every nuance of her sister's heart.

Now, tangled emotions warred inside her: pain, relief, and a bittersweet acceptance.

She'd made up her mind. She'd step aside. Let Kaguya have her happiness.

"I do."

Yuzuru forced a smile, ugly and fragile, fighting back tears as she looked up at him.

"That's wonderful."

Her voice trembled.

"Kaguya's beautiful, charming—she's the one who deserves to inherit the Yamai Spirit. So please, Shuo… choose her."

Shuo was silent for a moment, then answered calmly.

"I won't choose her."

Yuzuru froze, stunned. She stared at him, lost.

He gently pulled her into his arms, voice soft and aching.

"You know, that smile you're wearing—it looks more like you're about to cry, you silly Yuzuru."

Nestled against him, Yuzuru's heart twisted. Her nose tingled, and for a moment, she wanted to break down and sob.

She'd never wanted to disappear. But she wanted Kaguya to survive even more.

From the moment they were born, both sisters knew—only one of them could remain.

That's why they'd fought, endlessly, never able to settle the score.

Now, finally, Kaguya was about to win. She'd become the true Yamai.

Yuzuru blinked back tears. She couldn't cry.

She was so close—she couldn't ruin it now. Everything was for Kaguya.

She looked up, eyes shining with a strange light, lips pressed tight.

"Objection. Shuo is mistaken. And… Yuzuru is happy. So please, choose Kaguya, okay?"

"That's not happening."

Yuzuru's face twisted with urgency; her voice grew tight.

"Why?! Didn't you just say you liked Kaguya? Why won't you choose her?"

Shuo wiped away a tear from her cheek. Yuzuru shivered, cheeks flushing, her silver eyes wide with confusion.

"Why do you keep insisting I pick Kaguya instead of you? You know, Yuzuru's got the better figure, and you're gentle… maybe I'd choose you."

Her breath caught.

Did he really prefer girls with good figures?

Shuo's compliment made her blush, her voice soft and shy.

"But… Kaguya's more lively, cuter, and more charming than Yuzuru. You…"

He interrupted, grinning.

"But Yuzuru's got the better figure, and you're adorable too."

Yuzuru's heart fluttered—a mix of happiness and frustration. She really didn't know what to do.

He said he liked Kaguya, so why not choose her?

She noticed his gaze flicker, and her blush deepened.

Could it be… he likes me?

The thought made her cheeks burn even hotter. Did he really prefer girls with curves?

No!

Absolutely not!

Kaguya should win—she had to win!

Yuzuru pouted, eyes full of wounded accusation.

"Objection. Shuo, you pervert. Yuzuru hates you…"

As soon as the words left her lips, regret flooded her face. She looked at him, pitiful, torn between wanting him to dislike her and fearing he actually might.

Shuo just smirked, teasing.

"Is it wrong for a guy to like girls with curves? So… why can't I choose the one with the best figure—Yuzuru?"

Yuzuru opened her mouth, stunned, lost for words.

Everything had been going according to plan—he'd said he liked Kaguya. But now…

Her mind blanked. She had no idea how to sway him.

Seeing her confused, adorable expression, Shuo couldn't help but pinch her soft cheek.

That snapped her out of it. As if making a decision, she wrapped her arms around his waist, holding him tight.

Her gaze softened, filled with longing.

"If Shuo chooses Kaguya, then you can do anything you want to Yuzuru. Yuzuru won't resist."

Shuo nearly groaned.

Not this again!

Seriously, these twins—same seduction tactics, same lack of responsibility.

Did they really think he'd fall for it?

And worse—they flirted, teased, then tried to skip out on the consequences.

If you're not planning to marry me, why bother with all this?

Both of you had better take responsibility!
