Tim's eyes locked on the duffel bag spilling stacks of cash across the concrete. Barbara stood steady, her gaze sharp.
"Three hundred thousand should cover our vehicle of choice," she said flatly.
Tim snapped his head up and nodded furiously. "Of course, of course. I wouldn't dream of charging you more than that."
Barbara turned to Pamela. "Let's take a look at what we've got."
Pamela's lips curved faintly. "Of course, my dear."
Barbara laced her fingers with Pamela's, leading her down the row of dimly lit vehicles. Each car was draped in muted tones—matte gray, faded black, washed-out silver. Every one of them radiated the kind of anonymity they needed.
In the back corner, a sedan caught Barbara's eye. Four doors, low roof, sleek but unassuming. Its frame was coated in rust, grime, and dents, but its stance was powerful. It blended in so perfectly it demanded attention only because of how forgettable it looked.
Tim perked up. "Ah, I see you've found our Unicorn. Top of the line, ultra attention-diverting. She hides in plain sight."
Barbara released Pamela's hand and stepped closer. She brushed her palm along the rust, then knocked her knuckles against the hood. "Military-grade rust. Underneath, this body is bulletproof. It'll withstand most handguns and even rifles."
Pamela tilted her head. "And the engine?"
Barbara pulled the hood open and peered inside. She studied the block and components for a long moment. "Looks solid. We can add more modifications later."
Tim dabbed at his forehead with his handkerchief. "Oh, you want to make even more modifications? Well, yes, yes, that's your right. And, uh… I was never here when you said that."
Barbara gave him a hard look. "Hmm. We'll take it."
Tim brightened quickly. "Excellent! Would you like fake plates, background documents, the usual setup?"
Barbara shook her head. "No need. I'll handle it personally." She extended her hand. "The keys."
Tim dug into his jacket and pulled out a remote-start key fob, pressing it into her palm.
Barbara and Pamela slid into the car—Pamela settling into the passenger seat, Barbara behind the wheel. The engine purred to life with surprising smoothness. They rolled slowly toward the exit, the overhead lights reflecting faintly on the rust-coated hood.
Barbara stopped in front of Tim one last time. Her window slid down.
"Pleasure doing business," she said coolly. "Remember—we were never here. If anyone says otherwise…"
Tim swallowed hard and nodded quickly. "Yes, yes, I understand. No camera footage, no paperwork, nothing exists."
Barbara's eyes glinted. "Oh, Tim. That was taken care of the second we arrived. None of your cameras are operational anymore. We fried the central hub while you were walking us into the garage. You might want to spend some of that cash on new equipment."
Tim's face went pale. He grabbed a bag of money from the pile and bolted into the shadows, terror written across his face.
Pamela watched him vanish, then turned to Barbara. "You broke their entire surveillance system?"
Barbara nodded, her hands steady on the wheel. "Of course. Primitive wiring, easy to melt. I did it remotely the moment we walked past the office."
Pamela's eyes softened, her voice low. "You're beautiful right now."
Barbara pressed the accelerator, steering them toward the ramp. As they drove upward, they passed a disposal pit. Their old car hung from a magnet, sparks flying as it was lowered into a churning vat of liquid metal. Steam hissed as the vehicle dissolved into molten slag.
Pamela raised an eyebrow. "They have excellent disposal services here."
Barbara smirked faintly, guiding the Unicorn toward the street. "Told you—I've thought about being a villain for a while. I know my way around it."
