Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Eye of the Storm

The battlefield was chaos—wind howled like screaming spirits, and lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating the arena in jagged bursts of white.

Reinhardt stood at the centre, his aura blazing with stormlight, his sword humming with power.

The storm sentinel straightened, towering and relentless.

Its voice thundered:

> "You dare claim dominion over the storm? Then PROVE IT!"

With a roar, it raised both hands, summoning a tempest so violent the very stones beneath them splintered. Tornadoes of raw lightning spiraled into existence, threatening to swallow everything whole.

For a heartbeat, Reinhardt faltered. The sheer force of the storm pressed against his chest, threatening to tear him apart. His aura flickered—unstable.

"No, no, no! Stay with us!" Elira's voice cut through the thunder. Her spear stabbed into the ground, anchoring her against the winds. "You're not alone, Reinhardt!"

Alden bared his teeth, his axe glowing brighter as he forced himself forward through the gale. "We fight TOGETHER, lad! Remember that!"

Callen thrust his sword high, his flames lashing out like a beacon amidst the storm. "Burn the fear away! We've come too far to kneel now!"

Their voices hit Reinhardt like a surge of fire in his veins. The storm wasn't meant to be faced alone—it was meant to be shared.

The crystal within his chest pulsed, and this time, instead of resisting the storm, he opened himself to it. The lightning did not consume him—it flowed through him, into his comrades, into their weapons.

The sentinel struck. Its colossal blade descended like a mountain falling.

Reinhardt raised his sword, the others aligning beside him—Elira's spear crackling with lightning, Alden's axe roaring with thunder, Callen's flames burning blue in the stormlight.

Their voices echoed as one:

"ASCEND!"

The clash was cataclysmic. Light swallowed everything—storm against storm, will against will. The arena shook as though the heavens themselves split open.

And then… silence.

The sentinel's blade shattered, fragments dissolving into sparks. Its towering form trembled, lightning flickering weakly across its body before it collapsed to one knee.

Its voice, once booming with scorn, softened into something almost reverent:

> "At last… you understand. The storm is not your enemy. It is your soul."

With that, the sentinel dissolved into pure energy, flowing into the crystal within Reinhardt. The storm calmed. The winds fell silent.

The arena lay still—scorched, broken, yet peaceful.

Reinhardt fell to one knee, exhausted but alive. Elira rushed to his side, her hand firm on his shoulder. Alden laughed, half-crazed with relief, while Callen simply exhaled, dropping his sword into the ground.

They had done it. They had survived the Trial of Ascension.
