The Red-Eyed Sickle Mantis glanced at Luck, tilting its head as though curious about how Luck dodged its strike.
"Come on," Luck said, his eyes flashing with cold light. He was starting to get a little serious.
A gash appeared on the grassy field as the mantis' scythe-like arms ran through it.
Having rolled away, Luck didn't waste any time and sank into the shadows as he raced through the field with the praying mantis in hot pursuit.
It didn't even flinch as it bisected its 'comrades' in an attempt to catch Luck.
Luck suddenly leapt out of the shadows, catching the praying mantis by surprise as his shadow wriggled subtly beneath him.
"Shadow Whip: Restraint".
Four thin whips shot towards the surprised D-rank beast as they quickly coiled around its body, impeding the praying mantis' movements.
Of course, as a Rank D, Luck's and its strength weren't comparable at all, so it broke free with ease in a split second.
Of course, Luck knew this already. All he needed was for it to be stopped for that split second.
Using its sudden burst of momentum against, a thin white spike suddenly emerged from the ground, leaving no room to escape.
*Puchi*
The mantis' body hung limply from the spike, as Luck's ears suddenly twitched
*Rumble*
Apart from the usual danger sense, Luck's passive skill, Perception, increased his sensory capabilities, essentially giving his five senses a boost.
So when his ears picked up on the subtle sound and his feet faintly felt the vibrations under him, he didn't hesitate to trust his instincts.
*Boom*
The ground exploded as a large black centipede shot into the air in pursuit of Luck. Its mandibles clicked wildly.
Luck scanned and observed the two-meter-long nightmare with an indifferent gaze.
(Black Carapaced Centipede. Rank D. Weakness: Eyes and mouth.)
Luck didn't even bother to waste time on its strengths as three Skeleton Spikes appeared behind him.
*Clang**Puchi**Puchi*
The one aimed at its eyes unfortunately met its steel-like carapace, but the two aimed at its mouth made up for it.
"Skrrrrrrrreeeeeee"
The centipede shrieked in pain as it felt its internal organs being skewered like a barbecue roast.
It didn't give up, though as it met Luck head on.
Luck twisted his body in mid-air to the centipede's side as he swung his dagger. This time, he didn't miss.
"Skreeeeeeeeee"
The centipede's horrific screeches were triple what they once were as they began to descend.
In a last-ditch attempt to kill the boy that had somehow managed to get on its back, he rolled furiously with the hopes of crushing Luck beneath its weight.
To its surprise, the boy distanced himself as if he feared it.
If the Carapaced Centipede could, it would have sneered at Luck's seeming cowardice.
That was when its one good eye caught what waited for it on the ground. The centipede squirmed as it saw the spikes that waited to pierce its soft underbelly like a piece of meat.
In a panic, it tried to curl itself into a ball so as to only allow its 'armour' to take the brunt of the damage. Unfortunately, it quickly figured out that it was unable to do so due to its entire internal system being shredded to mince meat.
It could only glare at Luck as it fell to its demise. What was supposed to be an easy kill ended up killing it.
The world was full of ironies.
