Chapter 86 - Chapter 86: Muzan: The Most Cowardly Demon King

Shinomiya Residence

"Miss, why don't you take a rest?"

Hayasaka Ai stood by the window, her expression calm but her voice laced with quiet concern.

Lately, she had often found her young lady glued to her phone — something almost unthinkable not long ago.

Ever since that incident at Shuchiin Academy, Kaguya Shinomiya had changed.

Every day she scrolled through online reports, strange forum posts, and even classified leaks — anything related to the bizarre events spreading across Japan.

What struck Hayasaka most was that night at school.

If that black shadow hadn't appeared to block the monster, neither of them would have made it out alive.

"Hayasaka… it's getting harder and harder for ordinary people to survive in this world," Kaguya murmured, her eyes still fixed on the screen.

Personal experience, the news, and even the subtle movements within the Shinomiya family, all pointed to the same thing.

A new era was coming.

And she refused to simply drift with the tide.

Waiting for change meant waiting for death and that had never been her way.

She wanted to act. To take control of her fate.

In her mind, two figures appeared again and again — the girl with wings that glimmered like moonlight, and the man who commanded shadows as if they were alive.

"Miss…" Hayasaka whispered softly. She understood that look in Kaguya's eyes. Determination. Fear. Hope.

But what could she do?

She was only a pawn in the Shinomiya family's grand game. A servant with no say.

Kaguya closed her phone and exhaled slowly, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

"What we need," she said quietly, "is timing."

--

The same was happening across other worlds.

Only one thing remained certain...

the mastermind behind all these changes was Yami Tsukishiro.

Even though the "Invasion Path" hadn't been unlocked yet, Yami Tsukishiro could tell he'd caught something big.

Kocho Shinobu and the others had already conquered the fifth floor of the dungeon, and from the third level onward, their journey had turned brutal.

By the time they reached the eighth floor, an unidentified thunder strike descended—

a fourth-tier armed wraith.

Though they managed to defeat it through teamwork, the price was steep.

Five members—Kocho Shinobu, Viper, Jade-chan, Mine, and Kurome—had fallen.

And now, with two world gates open simultaneously, Yami could feel it.

He had really caught a big fish this time.

After stationing countless shadow soldiers around the villa as protection, Yami stepped into the portal's darkness without hesitation.

"Two worlds opening at once… man, this is wild," he muttered, letting out a wry laugh.

"It's like nothing happens for years—then suddenly everything blows up at once."

With that, Yami Tsukishiro disappeared into the dungeon light, as two universes began to tremble in response.

--

"Ella, Shion, Kaen — come to the throne room."

Yami's calm voice echoed through the hall.

Moments later, the three appeared before him. Between the twin thrones shimmered a massive crimson portal, its surface rippling like blood under moonlight.

"You three, follow me."

Without another word, Yami Tsukishiro stepped into the Gate of the World.

The three followed without hesitation.

The instant they crossed, a biting wind struck their faces.

Snow fell endlessly from a dark, overcast sky, and the world was buried under an ocean of white.

The night was freezing. Silent. Yet heavy with the scent of death.

"It's so cold… Is this snow?"

Shion stretched out her hand, letting the flakes melt against her fingers. It was her first time seeing snow — her eyes glimmered with childlike wonder.

But that brief moment of innocence vanished as she froze mid-motion.

"Master," she said sharply, her tone switching to full alert. "It smells like blood."

Yami's gaze had already fixed on a lone wooden house standing in the distance.

The scent was unmistakable — thick, iron-sweet blood.

"Creak…"

The door opened slowly. A pale foot stepped out, pressing softly into the snow.

Under the moonlight stood a man dressed in black, wearing white trousers and a brimmed hat.

His skin was ghostly pale — and his eyes, a deep, unnatural plum-red.

The stranger's gaze locked onto Yami and his companions.

Cold. Empty. Inhuman.

Without a word, his long, claw-like fingers extended, slicing through the air with killing intent so sharp it could split stone.

"Clang!"

A burst of golden light flashed.

The blade strike was intercepted — the bone-like claws shattered mid-swing.

Shion stood before Yami, her expression hard, the Sword of Victory glowing brilliantly in her grasp.

"Master," she said, her eyes burning with fury, "this man smells absolutely vile… may I kill him?"

Her voice trembled with anger.

Someone had dared to attack her master and that was something she could never forgive.

"...Hm?"

The man's pupils shrank sharply.

He had only intended to slaughter a few humans who happened to witness him but never once did he expect his fingers to be sliced clean off.

"Demon Slayer Corps?!"

His expression twisted in disbelief. The moment his gaze fell upon the blade in Shion's hand, he instinctively assumed she belonged to that accursed organization.

"'Muzan Kibutsuji, huh?"

Yami muttered under his breath, his tone half amused, half exasperated.

"Of all the luck… I just got here, and I already bump into the final boss of the Demon Slayer world."

The man's body stiffened.

For the first time, he heard his name — Muzan Kibutsuji — uttered aloud by another.

"...!!!"

Every hair on Muzan's body bristled.

A surge of pure, murderous intent exploded from him, spreading through the snowy forest like a storm of blood and malice.

For an ordinary person, that presence alone would have been enough to paralyze them with terror.

But the ones standing before him were anything but ordinary.

Yami Tsukishiro didn't even blink.

Behind him, Shion, Ella, and Kaen stood silently, their auras calm and unbothered.

To them, the so-called progenitor of demons was nothing more than a curiosity.

An insect pretending to be a god.

Muzan's rage faltered.

Confusion flashed across his crimson eyes as his killing intent wavered, then abruptly shrank away.

"…He's backing off?" Yami blinked, genuinely surprised.

The mighty Demon King, reduced to a cornered rat.

"I finally get to see what a real coward looks like," Yami sighed, rubbing his forehead.

"I thought he was about to transform into some ultimate form and start roaring about perfection or destiny… but no. The moment he sees we're not impressed, he just wants to bolt."

"But what a shame... stay where you are."

Yami Tsukishiro's voice cut through the air, cold and absolute.

The sound pierced straight into Muzan Kibutsuji's body—into his very nerves.

Before he even realized it, Muzan's body froze in place.

His pupils dilated in horror as he struggled to move, but his limbs refused to obey.

"W–Wh…?"

Panic flickered across his pale face.

He could feel it—his body wasn't his anymore.

"Ella," Yami said calmly, not even bothering to look at him.

"Kill him. I don't feel like getting my hands dirty."

"Yes, Master."

Ella raised her slender hand. A soft blue flame flickered at her fingertips.

The flame leapt forward, soaring through the snowy night like a spirit from the underworld.

It melted the snow beneath its path and struck Muzan dead-on.

"———!!!"

Every instinct in Muzan's body screamed.

That fire wasn't ordinary. It was death itself.

He tried to split his body, to scatter into countless fragments and flee.

But that same unseen force held him still. His body wouldn't move.

All he could do was watch helplessly as the blue fire consumed him.

When the restraint finally broke—

"AAAAHHHHHH!!"

Muzan screamed and detonated his own body, scattering into thousands of fleshy shards in all directions.

It worked—he thought. He could still escape!

But the blue flame of the Netherworld didn't fade.

It clung to every piece of him, burning through every cell and nerve.

The fragments twitched, then crumbled into ash.

In less than a heartbeat, nothing remained.

The snow fell silently again, and the wind carried away what was once the "progenitor of demons."

Yami exhaled softly, watching the blue embers fade into the night.

"Inferior beings like this... in this world, even trash has hierarchy," he murmured.

"But this one? He's trash among trash."

Then a familiar sound echoed through his mind.

[Ding! You have eliminated the Ancestor of Demons and unlocked the original embryo of the Undead Monster — Demon King!]

[Ding! You have obtained the D-Level Monster Meme — Demon Ancestor!]

Yami smiled faintly.

"Not bad. Killing one cowardly demon lord and getting two rewards? I'll take it."
