Vocal Trainer Song pointed toward the opposite end of the pavilion.
"Not singing. Not performance. Communication."
Jaehyuk frowned. "What's the difference?"
"You're about to find out."
Trainer Song gestured toward the semicircle of cushions.
"Sit."
We settled onto the floor cushions, the wood beneath us smooth and cool. Fifteen meters separated us from where Trainer Song stood at the pavilion's edge, silhouetted against the valley.
"Idols get accustomed to microphones doing part of the physical work for them."
He tapped his throat.
"The equipment amplifies. Projects. Carries your voice to the back row without you understanding how sound actually travels through space."
The forest rustled around us.
"I want to see whether you understand projection, resonance, and intention independently of amplification."
The production assistant appeared with a cards, distributing one to each of us.
I looked down.
