The tone was pure mockery—deliberately over-the-top spooky, like someone telling ghost stories to children.
I stared at the door for a second.
What does he want with me?
I opened it only a crack.
Ren stood in the hallway, still wearing practice clothes but somehow looking effortlessly put together despite the late hour. His pastel pink hair caught the corridor's dim lighting.
"Was the commotion just now too loud?" His expression shifted from playful to genuinely concerned. "Did we scare you?"
"It was loud," I admitted. "But it didn't scare me."
His gaze dropped to my bare feet, then traveled up to my hair.
I hadn't looked in a mirror since collapsing onto the bed, but I could imagine—pillow-mussed, probably sticking up at odd angles.
"Sorry. I didn't realize you were resting."
"I wasn't."
Ren looked at my hair again.
"Of course."
Heat crept up my neck.
